In my mind she escapes and avenges her master's death by becoming the most epic warrior on the planet.

Her expression is heart-breaking. It's rare that pictures can make me feel anything beyond "oh that's pretty" or "this person must be very talented" but your gallery is full of artworks which spark such strong emotions. This one, it's all I can do not to try and jump through the screen to rescue her...

Thank you for saying so! Β It is the challenge of capturing emotions that interests me most in art.

An excellent piece.

I love the dark looming quality of the headsman behind her and how he blends into the upper background.

I like the overall effect of the well lit though blurred faces of the crowd but the lighting looks to bright to be from any natural source. It looks like they have been lit by stadium type lights, which seems improbable from this scene.

The bit of gore on the chopping block and the jester's hat lying nearby are well executed and prime examples of solid story telling.

To be honest though there are two elements that really take this work to the next level.

The first is the title and the quote. The title follows the quote and sets up the actual piece brilliantly. The quote I find to be a gem in its own right. It is concise, full of imagery, and instantly understood. Paired with the picture it loses nothing of its brilliance and really brings out the story.

The second is her expression of shock. Her face is superbly done and I my eyes are continually drawn back to it but the rest of her posture should not be overlooked. The hand caught mid-comb through her hair, her other hand cautiously tracing the block when the realization hits her. Wonderful. The artist clearly put some work, thought, and talent into this.

Woh, thank you for such a thorough comment! I truly appreciate your critique.

The quote is indeed very important. Before I had those words in mind, the image image had no clear direction. An image without direction, or focus, has little impact.
