Walking home from work the other day, I noticed lots of these little guys landing on flowers, and I just felt this creative urge to draw them.I've always had a fascination with insects and how they work and live. Also, bees are one of the few bugs I would consider "cute" (along with ladybugs and a few others.) I've also been wanting to make something a little less cartoony for a change; give those realistic art muscles a chance to flex.

Bees are pretty cool, but I can't help but freak out whenever I see one. I do like your art here, it kind of makes me wish I could draw realistic artwork. Time for more practice!

It's great to see examples of your other work. They're not exactly cartoons because of the realism, yet they rival the drawings in any science test. I think you captured the world at their level very well, plus they look terrific.

Awesome work, first of all. The detail and style is just perfect. I don't really have "realistic art muscles" so I tend to fall back on drawing silly cute things like ponies and pokemon. Envious (especially on the foliage. Dang...)
Bees are definitely quite fascinating, and you're right about the whole "if you leave them alone they tend not to mess with you" thing. I've observed many a bee up close without any issue, and they do have a very intriguing appearance. It's funny, I'm pretty well terrified of most bugs (including the generally loved and harmless butterfly) but bees don't bother me at all. My dad and brother, on the other hand, are both completely freaked out by bees. Go figure.

You know what's really cool? Watch a yellow jacket land and suck up some jelly in it's mandibles. Dunno why, it's really neat to see.
