Katafrakts are apprehensive by nature. Although they have no predators, they have evolved in a manner that suggests that they believe themselves to be surrounded by predators. "It's going to eat me! It's going to eat me!" Yipes.

The Katafrakt lives its life in peace, secure in the knowledge that the dreaded Trogon ptomaton or corpse eater will only show interest if it is itself starving. There is, after all, easier prey most anywhere. The ptomaton is a sort of giant hyena, which has the tooth and jaw power to break the Katafrakt's shell, although it will hunt almost anything else.
