Description "In a hidden stone cavern somewhere at the bottom of the Lily Lagoon rests a hoard of landwalker trinkets. Legend has it that each one grants the power of endless fortune to any who wield them, but such a power is dangerous when if left in the wrong claws.

Despite knowing this, you decide to venture to find this fabled hoard for yourself, and take one of the treasures as a prize.

The cavern is hard to find, barely wide enough for you and your companion to fit through, and opens up into a network of tunnels. It seems almost impossible to find your way through- all the tunnels look the same, and you swear that you've been down this corridor before, but the mark you had made on the wall seemed to be rubbed out somehow.

It takes you a while to find your bearings, but eventually, the tunnels stop branching off, and one passageway remains unchecked. You're so caught up in your excitement that you fail to notice the ever-more frequent instances of claw marks running across the walls and floor as you swim past.

When you finally reach the end, you're left disappointed. The only treasure to be found here was a small pile of mismatched junk lying on the floor. Sunlight from a small hole in the wall makes a few the shinier object twinkle lightly.

This was it?

This was no legendary pile of magic riches, only a sad collection of knickknacks that someone went through far too much trouble of hiding. Still, you're here now. Might as well complete your goal.

But as you make your way forward, you feel yourself being tackled by something you were previously unaware of. You slam to the floor as a hissing noise fills your ears. Your head spins, but your blurry vision can barely make out a lithe, green shape crouching in front of the pile like a stalking predator. The hissing seems to fill the cavern itself, pounding into your skull as you fight for your consciousness.

The last thing you see are two sets of golden eyes boring into yours before your vision falls dark..."

"Oh! I'm sorry, was that too scary for you, young one? I promise, It's only a story. Now run along to bed, or else The Luck Eater will curse you!"

---------

Ouroboros, or "The Luck Eater", as some would call him, is a Phish-Keeper who's sworn duty is to protect a hoard of magical artifacts from falling into the wrong claws. They made their home in a series of interconnected tunnels underneath Lily Lagoon, and watches all intruders closely, attempting to turn them around by ruining any markers they set for themselves, or by chasing them out directly. He isn't above using force if a trespasser makes it too far into their lair.

They aren't however, entirely antisocial. They trust their maze of a home to distract raiders for long enough, should he feel the desire to converse with other Phish-Keepers. While they're predictably quite subdued in conversation, his companion, Caduceus, is quite outgoing, often leading the conversations they're a part of.

After years of protecting genuine lucky totems, both Ouro and Cad have grown a fondness for collecting their own lucky totems, even those without any genuine power to them. Over time, their collection has grown quite large, and each item they have is well kept and maintained. And bonus: It makes it harder for raiders to distinguish the magical items from the non-magical ones.

This drawing is for Kiwi's Saint Slithey DTA found here: P-k adopt an DTA! (Both open)

I had a ridiculous amount of fun drawing this guy! The teeth were such a fun thing to try and get right, and the more I drew the pile of lucky totems, the more I started considering WHY they would hoard them. The story was just a fun little bonus thing I decided to throw in for fun! As for the names, I decided to go with a little more symbolism involving snakes.

-Ouroboros is the ancient Egyptian symbol of a snake eating it's own tail (the name originates from Greece, however), made to represent eternity, the cycle of life and death, and overall harmony.

-Meanwhile, the Caduceus is a symbol originating around Hermes in Greek mythology (Mercury in Roman mythology), depicting two snakes wrapping around a rod. Hermes, being a messenger of the gods, is associated with doors and pathways, and was seen as a protector of travelers.
