More watercolor experimentation. After reading a bit on Edgar Degas , I was inspired by the way his compositions were successful in their asymmetry and the way he allowed parts of the subject to be cut off by the canvas. This is nothing like any of Degas' work, nor is it really in the style of his compositions, but I felt it was necessary to mention that his work was what planted the seed for trying a different type of composition than I usually do.I also wanted to really try and get the texture of a fluffy owl and feathers using watercolor. I also used a bit of colored pencil, and I think it adds to the effect. Lastly, it is an exercise in contrast. It's still very difficult for me to stretch my contrast boundaries!

i like your comment about the inspiration by degas - i personally don't like degas very much, but it doesn't matter here...
i am very much into music, and i often catch myself being inspired by music which has absolutely nothing to do with mine - long years ago i received a big "overall inspiration" by the works of bela bartok - his music is as far away from my style as it could be, haha...

Such beautiful use of the media applied - the owl looks gorgeous! Also the composition is different, with the "cut" head and rougher crop. This makes the piece stand out even more

Thanks! I realized most of my work had the entire figure within the canvas, so I wanted to try something focusing close on the figure.
