Description Entry for 's contest.
Inspired by 'Hydras' in Hercules starred by The Rock and dragons. Also sea themed.

Ok, there's the story goes, it's a tad bit long, I'm sorry I got carried away...

The Haroth was by the sea, hunting for her favorite fish when she was suddenly ambushed by a sea serpent. Although the sea serpent was young, as the adult species could grow longer than a ship, it proved to be a dangerous adversary for the Haroth. It was difficult battle, she had the air advantage, however the serpent hides under the water, making it difficult for her to land a direct hit. The Haroth was quick to dodge and nimble, but she got careless and suffered a blow to her face which shattered her mask and a deep gash on her arm. Luckily she dealt a fatal blow on the creature with her spear before she plummeted into the sea, while the serpent sink, writhing in its death throes.

She survived, having washed ashore on the nearby beach, drenched and tired. With some of her flight feathers gone and her arm wounded, which would take a while for them to heal. Moreover she lost her mask, and as rules she cannot return without one.

The Haroth decided to make another mask while she waited for her wound to heal, her feathers would take a while to grow back, so it'll be a long journey home. Luckily the carcass of the sea serpent was washed ashore and the abundant plant and aquatic life would provide her with the necessary materials to make another mask. She craved out a mask from a nearby tree using a small dagger she always strap around her waist, and using the same dagger, cut off the head of the serpent, hollow out the skull leaving some skin intact and let it dry under the sun, bleaching the skull in the progress. After that, using the blood of the serpent, she began to paint the mask and draw protective runes along the skull. The shells, pearls and feathers were remains of her meals (shellfish and albatrosses) while the corals and kelp she collected from the beach. The scales are from the serpent, attached to the shell by the use of resin secreted from a tree. The strings used on the mask were made from hays. The resin of the tree functions as a color preservative for the materials and glue as she put her mask together.

I refer to the Haroth in the story as she, as I preferred. But she can be any gender ;v;
