It's very gritty........Packed with wall to wall people
Yes.!! garbage on the streets.......
The only thing that is missing is a pushcart vender
there were not many out this day.............!!

This is so different to the China Town in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide This is an eye opener for me as I never knew it would look like this in NYC Sydney China Town is always packed with people like this but the garbage like that would never be allowed on the streets. This is an amazing sight and very very different to what I would see in Australia. Thank you so much for sharing. Maybe when I am next in Sydney I will take a picture of China Town there so that you can see what it is like here in Australia

Your not the only person who said this ..........I have grown up
with all the garbage on the streets..........I just thought
all the cities china towns looked the same..........

I guess it is just here in NYC it is filled with litter...
I can't wait to see your china town.........

It is so different seeing that but i guess that is what makes every country and state so individual but that litter is sad..there should not be litter on the street you see if that happened here those shop owners would be in huge trouble..it is a legal offence ..it is actually a legal offence to even throw a cigarette butt out of your car window in most states of Australia...if you get caught it is an on the spot fine of $200.00

I agree.....it is a shame..........
other places are so much more cleaner than here.

like the train...........stations.........we have so much
garbage on the tracks and they catch fire all the time..
and rats............I see them all the time on the tracks......
so gross.............!

it is ok honey I am sure there are plenty of places like that. My mum and dad went to their home country Greece after 27 years to visit their brothers and sisters and they were disgusted as to how dirty it was I think we are just too used to Australia and know no better.

crying..........venders yelling ............you name it...........!!

It really does tell a story..........
so many people have said it is not like this in there
china town.......much cleaner..............makes me think...........
I grew up with it like this ever since i was a child........

Hello Lois!! I had no idea about this ....... You must remember that I don't get around much and am not very well acquainted with environments like this!! I'm so dumb, I didn't even know that there was a China town in your state!! Is this too as result of a poverty stricken area, or is it something else!!
I do like the image not only because of it's composition, but it contains a hard storyline ... sort of makes a person "wake-up" to the reality of things!!
Very good image ... very journalistic in nature!!

That's fine ...........I haven't traveled much my self for
the east cost .........


this is how it always looks ...... there are some very wealthy
people who live here.......... the garbage is collected every day
the streets are so narrow......that there is no place to put it......

Hi Lois!! Something just came to me ... I keep wanting to say "Hi and Lois" (after the cartoon that used to appear the the local newspaper)!! Sorry ....
Anyway, I DO feel bad sometimes that I just don't know that much about many things!!
I then am assuming that I was wrong in my viewing this as a poverty area!! It's just this way because of the lack of space for people to properly contain their refuse, correct??
It must be interesting to see how the trash truck maneuvers through all of this!!

I always thought all china towns looked like this
BOY was I wrong..............it is all clean and tidy......
in all the other ones............just NYC is like this.

we can't always know everything about everything.......

I have to take a picture of how narrow the streets are..
on my next trip here........
there are some streets that are poorer than others I will have to
agree with you on that.......

there are some buildings that have 10 family members in a 2 bedroom apt.............

it's so sad............men live in a small studio apt ..with a bathroom in
the hall way.............
it's bad down there.............
