Tyrion was the only Lannister to put Joffery in his place. Joffery is horrible in every way and deserves every slap Tyrion gave him for his bullshit, and he should have slapped Cersei for doing a horrible job bringing up Joffery.

I have only had the chance to watch a few episodes, but what cemented Tyrion for me was that despite Joffrey threatening to tell his mom about getting slapped, Tyrion slapped him again and went "Whatever, but first you do what I tell you to do."

That first time he slaps Joffrey back in Winterfell was the exact moment in which he became my favorite character (though, I'm only up to ASoS, in which that title switched to Jaime)
