If there is anything you can call Jean, it's 'awkward'. He feels a strong need to correct people when they're wrong about facts, all of his clothing is at least three sizes too big and he shuffles along silently, his head always turned to the ground. Really, on first glance, it is hard to find something likable about him. He can also show a rather aggressive and abrasive side whenever he feels out of place or awkward. As such he has a habit of snapping at others and getting rather defensive.
In reality, Jean is very lonely. He doesn't have any friends and all his relatives have far better things to do then hang out with him every day. Every person who is close to and is dear to him, he can actually be very sweet and thoughtful towards. He remembers a lot of little details about people and tries hard to do good things for them, though he would never admit any of that. He is also very dependable if you entrust him with something and even in cases where he rejects requests, more often then not he'll end up doing it anyway.
However, if Jean really likes someone, as friend or otherwise, he can get incredibly jealous of anyone else interacting with them, being scared that they'll ditch him for better people. While he doesn't like that about himself, he can't help himself about it either. He's also very obsessive in regards to food, having a very strict diet and even beyond that just a hard time eating anything that he didn't plan for. While he's not obvious about it, his lack of eating causes him to be rather frail, on edge and tired.

[Reason for moving] To help him with his personal problems

Jean was born the youngest out of five. Preceding him were four incredibly talented, beautiful and most of all, popular children. As such, he had big shoes to follow. Even from a young age he couldn't hide from the comparisons, nor from the fact that his siblings were rarely separable from their friend groups. Even Eliane, who he was very close with as a child, often times wasn't around because she played with her friends. As such, he was always rather alone, playing in his room by himself. In kindergarten too, he had a hard time connecting to children his age, a fact that wouldn't change later on in life.
When he was old enough to realize that he had become somewhat of an outcast, he felt terrible. He didn't want to be alone. He didn't want to be seen as a loser. He wanted to be just like his siblings, loved, successful. Happy.
So he tried that by taking his brother as an example. He tried playing soccer like him, wearing the same clothing as him. He even tried making friends with his friends. But somehow, it had the opposite effect. The more he tried, the more he looked like an absolute loser. And the more he looked like a loser, the more of a laughing stock he became. It made him feel like there was something wrong with him. That he had to change. That, if only he was prettier, if only he was better, then they would like him more. So, to try not looking like a little boy anymore, he started to lose weight. He learned how to cook to eat healthier, worked out with his brother and tried hard to cut down on his vices. But what started as a goal soon turned into an obsession. He cut down on his calories and worked out more, but the work outs soon became too strenuous on his body that was getting weaker and weaker.
After a good while of torment, Jean stopped trying to impress. Instead he isolated himself again, realizing that being alone was far better then being around others. It didn't help his health, but it did fueled his history interest, giving him time to read through many, many books. He gathered more and more knowledge and once he finally graduated, it was a no brainer to study history in University. University would be his new start, his terf.
At least that was the idea. But it turned out that people could be just as cold in University. Unable to find any kind of connections and feeling the weird looks from strangers every day, it just became too much for him.

Feeling out of place, unwell and awkward, his condition got worse and worse. So much so that he had to stop going to University and go back home for people to take care of him. His parents got so worried that they asked Eliane to take in Jean for a little while, show him how nice life could be. So, once he was a little bit better, he was shipped off to Lichbarrow.
