I remember turning Cherche into a war cleric ^v^ It was weird since Minerva was not with her and then when she defeated a enemy she would always talk like Minerva was there (but she wasn't ) that's cherche for you though, she loves so much she thinks she's in battle with her (but really she could by flying in the sky watching her Master battle ^v^)Β
Cherche was pretty powerful in this form, so yeah, I had no problems with this form/class of her (she actually looks cute in the outfit ^_^)Β
Great job by the way ^w^ !

a friend linked me to this today anD IT MADE ME SO HAPPY I LOVE WAR CLERIC CHERCHE TOO THANK YOU FOR DRAWING SUCH A CUTE PICTURE SHE'S ADORABLE ; w ;
(all your art is SUPER CUTE you have such a charming style, the big heads and childlike facial proportions are really endearing and it's really impressive how much detail you put into the clothing and hair!)
I really like the way you drew her hair and how the larger chunks of her bangs are split into all these smaller strands at the ends, and the thin little strips of hair flying around the larger flat sheet shape really add to the sense of motion and layering. The soft subtle shading is just enough to bring out a bit of volume as well; it's really nice.
I like the volume you gave to the skirt with how the folds are billowing out, and the metal bars look really solid and carefully drawn. The thinner lines used for finer details like the lace edging on the headdress add depth, and I like how you gave the staff a sense of form as well--how the crescent moon shape has some volume and you can see the sphere's resting at the peak of its arc, and the end of the staff looks a bit flat. There's a very nice subtle sense of form given with soft, minimal shading and your use of lines, and the purple shading color is very pleasing alongside the blue and pink.
About criticism, and because someone else mentioned the face, I have taken the liberty of doing a redline because I think it's due to some very tiny measurement issues with the features that they look a bit "off", such as the eyes needing to be just slightly wider apart and the mouth being not quite tilted to follow the curve of the face. (The ear also seems very slightly tilted out of place, though it's barely noticeable.) Keep in mind that this is only how I would redraw it and you would likely find a solution that's more in keeping with your style; you have a tendency to draw eyes closer to the nose than I'm comfortable doing (and you make it look really endearing with Maribelle and Lissa may I add), so I didn't try to imitate it. (And of course if you find you prefer the original to my hasty "fix", feel free to dismiss this entire paragraph as a matter of taste; she looks adorable already. And, I apologize for marking up your art without permission and will take it down if you like.)
Again, thank you for sharing this picture; we need more war cleric Cherche in the world.

Haha, yeah, getting reference for some of the costume details in FE13 is a pain. I've been using the staff in Lissa's artwork as reference, although I'm not entirely sure how the fancy scrollwork on it is built. (The war monk/cleric gauntlets are pretty frustrating to me as well. I keep thinking it should be simple to just break them down into cone shapes but... they never come out looking as structurally sound as I'd like.)
Oh good, I'm glad! I find it's a lot easier to redline than to try and explain with words, if I have the ability to do so, so I'm happy it was helpful. Of course photos of actual faces and polished work by good chibi artists would likely be better reference for any future work, but if you find any use for the redline as well then that's great.
Well, your coloring in general does tend to be very pale, and the shading very light/close to the base color so that the colors end up looking almost flat (but they do have that subtle sense of form since you shade quite carefully according to the shape of the object). I think the form would stand out a lot more if you tried using darker colors for shading, and the blended edges would still probably keep the soft look. About the skin specifically, I think the pink lightly brushed over it looks good, but still is rather like a flat base coat--you could strengthen it by adding considerably darker shadows in key areas where they would be cast (like under the hair, at the neck, in the ear where the hole is).
However, the more pressing issue with contrast is that shading aside, the base colors of the hair, dress, and the brown cage thing/boots are all very similar in tone. You can make flat colors or almost flat colors look good if the colors themselves contrast with each other, but if you turn this image into grayscale you'll notice that all the things I just mentioned come out looking like about the same tone of gray. The eye is immediately drawn to the strongest point of contrast in an image, and with tone that means wherever the grayscaled colors come closest to looking like white against black; but if everything looks about the same gray, the eye doesn't know where to focus. It can help a lot to periodically turn your image into grayscale mode as you're working to check whether it still looks interesting in black-and-white, and try not to have colors of very similar tone right next to each other. All it takes is just dragging the color picker higher or lower in the box and filling areas with lighter/darker versions of the colors you originally chose, or using layer blending modes to lighten/darken colors that are too similar by painting over them on another layer.
Yesss, War Clerics FTW! And you're welcome, I'm really glad you found it useful.

I'm sorry for the late reply - I've been really busy this week with final papers and projects, but at that's all over now. The official FEA guidebook breaks down the costumes and weapons very well, but I haven't found any pages that were just for the staves. I guess it's just buried in the internet somewhere. Β
Oh gosh, I see what you mean. >.< Since a few months ago, I've been choosing my colors based on a single background color so that the colors wouldn't clash and I could make a background more easily. I've been looking over a lot of my past works, though, and I noticed that if I choose a background that's on the dull side, the resulting colors tend to be unsaturated instead. As a result, they blended together too much and rarely stood out by themselves. I'm going to be experimenting with saturation and darker values from here on out, and the black-and-white trick will be really useful. Maybe if I choose a background color that's more saturated, it'll be easier to pick brighter colors.
My problem with shading is that if I use darker colors to accentuate the form of the subject, it tends to look unbalanced. When I flip the image horizontally, it just looks like I airbrushed one side of the image too much. I do understand that there are some parts of the image (like what you said, the ear and the neck) where extra shading would've been useful. ...Actually, I don't know why I overlooked that this time. I usually do that, but I guess I was eager to get this done. At any rate, I'll just study references a lot more.
Yeah, thanks again.

For me, this game was well worth the buy (though it does help to look at a few playthroughs before you decide). The cutscenes have a lot of charm and the soundtrack is gorgeous... Then the 30+ characters have so much development that hours of gaming only unlock a fraction of it. It's your choice, but definitely give it a look! (Although it sounds like you've already did some research...)

Constructive criticism? Ah... I dunno... her face looks slightly off somehow, though I'm not sure why....?
TBH that's really reaching though. ~___~ It looks great to me, I don't see any glaring flaws or anything.Β

It's my pleasure. She makes a pretty badass cleric, given she used to discipline Minerva by hitting her with her staff if she misbehaved.

War Monk, sorry about that xD His dad is Gregor in my current playthrough which explains his low Res growth...(Both Cherche and Gregor have low Res growth T_T). Cherche thinks old men are 'cute' so theirs was a really funny support haha. Then there's Gregor's past connection with Minerva which was interesting too.Β

Hmm...well there's Lonqu who cures his gynophobia by talking to her. That one is probably the best support for Lonqu for me. Donnel also has a funny/cute one...and I find Frederick to be an interesting one as well, because of their similarity as vassals to a lord (Frederick to Chrom, Cherche to Virion). And you can't leave Virion out of the picture either, who has the closest background with her...I don't think she actually has a particularly bad one, now that I've listed things xD

No problem at all, I actually like discussing FE:A anyways lol. For Fred I liked Maribelle (Tries to make Fred her Steward), Cherche (Lots of chivalry and LOYALTY!), Panne(He's afraid of large animals and Panne happens to be a giant rabbit) and Cordelia(Same faction with same leader and Fred is her superior in command). For Gregor I liked Cherche(Minerva backstory) Sully(Similar things in mind and one of the best Kjelles out there) and Panne(He calls her bunny aww). I kind of have the stats in mind too when I do those so they don't go with Mag. focused characters like Tharja and Miriel in this case. Maribelle was an exception because her support was pretty good.
