Description Private commission, posted with permission from the commissioner.

As some of you know, I usually don’t accept full on sculpting commissions, but have been considering taking them on in rare cases, namely in cases of people who I know and have worked with before. Those of you who are on that list know who you are, so as a quick note, please do not send inquiries about sculpture commissions. I’m hoping to start doing more in the future, but want to first try it out with people I know and trust.

Back to the masks! These were a challenge in materials for me. I’m pretty stuck in the mindset of “sculpt in wax clay, cast in resin.” They weren’t really comfortable with selling these masks as blanks, and to do one offs in resin, cost wise, would be a bit much. It pushed me out of my comfort zone, and I gave paper clay a try. It’s not too bad, actually! I definitely don’t see myself using it for fine details like in the figurines or pendants, but this in combo with epoxy made for some decent light weight, sturdy masks. (I would not jump into battle with these on, but that is not the intended use for these either). The paint job was unusual for me too, (you all know me, I’m a sucker for the challenge of subtle coat colors found in nature), but these are meant to have the contrast of the complementary colors. That was a fun challenge to still try to bring out the depth and details of the mask, while sticking to the desired color scheme!
