I have been waiting on some explanation on that too because it seems a rather odd choice for an optional female dress code. The Krosmic Balance doesn't appear to have a solid form so it can't have been taken from that... The very first Huppermage was male but since the male dress code doesn't have the ears (other than as a hat/hood with ear-like shapes), I would assume he didn't have them either.

Maybe it's an alternative to the gold-wings hair ornament? Some male and female Huppermages seem to have it.

In the Dofus game, it is optional. Some haircuts have golden wings without the ears, ears without the wings or both together. But this is only for females. There is a hood option for both male and female which has the ear shape worked into it.

Top row options is Bonta related and bottom row options is Brakmar related, from what we know though it is a free choice for anyone.
