Construction Notes:

I saw this art work on Konachan.com while looking for fun outfits for Asuka, unfortunately I did not get the name of the artist (if you know who it is comment so I can give proper credit). Since I was going to Otakon and the Inner Harbor at Baltimore provides a wonderful naval backdrop it seemed like the perfect outfit.

I wanted to keep the outfit true to the summer feeling so I made sure my fabric choices were light weight and breathable. The red strip fabric of the top gave me the most difficulty to find but finally I found an excellent cotton jersey that matched what I wanted. The sailor collar was made with cotton and I used blue bias tape to trim the edge. The skirt is white cotton sateen, which is wonderful because it isn’t see through but breathes wonderfully in the heat, and trimmed it again with my blue bias tape (unseen are the two blue button closures). I purchased the hair clips from an anime shop because although I made my original hair clips these handle extensive usage better. The bangles were a find on Etsy.com and are actual vintage plastic bangles from the 70s.
