Perhaps that may be the reason behind their success now - the pressure from the tabloids, the fans, their label. If I was in their place I would go insane pretty quickly… I imagine that constantly having to live up to the expectations of others can suck the fun out of anything, including music. So even if they've lost the passion, I don't blame them as long as they keep making the emo kids happy. However, I still believe they enjoy what they do!
You listened to the Rolling Stones when you were 15? That's a pretty good music taste for a 15 year old. When I was 15 I listened to like… techno and electronica until I realized I like pretty much every genre of music.
I suppose you are from Germany/ Austria? Your english is really good. I'd attempt to speak in german to you, but I barely remember anything. I studied it for 6 years, but that was a long time ago...

I went through a whole obsession phase over Tokio Hotel. I listen to different stuff now mostly. Their lyrics are quite emotional and moving and helped me get through some rough times. I am not obsessed over them anymore, but I am still grateful for their amazing music and the contribution it made to my adolescence.

ah, there are a lot of better bands with a lot better lyrics and lifestyle and authentic behavior - TH are just so... wannabe and mainstream and they do all this just for the hype imm. they're not doing it because of the music, the art, the medium or anything. they're just doing it for the teenies to love them. it's just not what music should be imm.

I agree, there are a lot of better bands with better lyrics. But again, when you're a 15 year old girl going through depression, a simple song like "Rette mich" or 'Durch Den Monsun" seems like a better choice rather than something like "Paint it Black" by the Rolling Stones. Keep in mind that TH started out small, playing at small gigs and talent shows. If it wasn't for their dedication and passion for music I highly doubt they would have gotten a contract and be where they are now. Besides, if a band ( with an extremely good looking lead singer whose rebellious style attracts millions of fangirls) plays music that has a way of speaking to angsty teenagers, it's bound to become mainstream sooner or later. That's what happened to Radiohead, however, that doesn't stop me from loving Thom Yorke and his crew wholeheartedly. My music taste varies from indie bands no one's ever heard of to stuff like Slipknot and Sido…and frankly, I don't give a shit about how "mainstream" a band is as long as the music speaks to my soul or reflects an experience I have gone through. So shame on those who even take that silly factor into consideration

but our difference is that u think TH does what it does, because they're musicans and love music and i think they're doing it, because they've got a pushing and operating label behind them and a screaming crowd of teenies in front of them.
but anyway: i'm not the one to say that a band is crap, because they're successful: i like radiohead, r.e.m and likin park as well as Tut Das Not or the Kills - because i like the music, the lyrics and the appearance, i myself don't give half a damn about who's popular and who's not - most of the time i don't even know if the bands are famous or not, because i just don't care about that whole (music and every other kind of) fashion.
well i was aged 15, too u know? (actually my sad times were earlier but does not matter at all) but i listend to the stones and the Peppers and sum 41, i always hated the hype and the i-do-it-because-everyone-does-it-thing. i was always trying to find my own ways.
(that does not mean that YOU are a victim of fashion and hype - but most of the TH fans are imm.)
