i has question, it's lovely really, but why do they have human-ish faces and deer bodies...i like the mask he/she's wearing though 8D

The reason, from my understanding, is that the deer are peaceful creatures and the creators wanted to create an environment for people to be in that's peaceful and calm. As for the human faces they wanted a familiar aspect to it as well as the legends that *WoelfinNishi mentioned.

I guess, human or dragon faced animals are very common creatures in legends of the Asian part of the world. As far as I know, human faced deers are gods or demons in history, who show with their existence, that the surroundings that they live in are healthy. (They used in Princess Mononoke such a human faced deer.) But I don't know, if I can trust the resources, so you better ask someone who knows Asian legends and creatures.
I don't know, why the creators of the game chose such deers as game charas, so go to the site and as them
