I thought it was fitting considering it's able to go between land and water like it does, plus the need to lay eggs under water. So I thought frog like thing made sense~

Β he looks...amazing! Our little lucky charm (due to his red eyes) and I always thought he was meant to resemble a goldfish. Each Mais has a special theme to their design. Given how I think these are tadpole-like creatures, you are fine with the froggie ref ^^.Β
Thanks Chalky and I will try to make you something fitting...actually there is something I want to ask you. You have the Japanese Kitsune in your story, so I am guessing there is some mystical elements (as Kitsunes have magic and all that). But I suppose you don't want to be too swamped if it takes away from the main freaks.Β
But....would there be a possibility for a Kappa to be part of this circus? It's like a turtle creature with a break and hair and a flat head with water on it...common in folklore and it can be either helpful or malevolent. It would be good for the freak aspect, but you may draw the line with Ninetails.

The kappa may distract from Platehead as he's sort of like the token "unknown animal" guy, since that's his reason for being part of the freak show. Since, no one knows what he is. I'd need to talk to Ryan about kappas one day but in the circus it might not work especially with Ninetails being there. Some things will be explained in the book when we finish like about Ninetails especially and how magic and stuff is viewed in this world. Kappas could appear tho one day, since we are planning to throw in a lot of influences from mythology as time goes on. We got a lot of stories and characters planned eventually after Biyu and Yuns story is finished being told~

To be honest, I do think Platehead might be safe because he does have more going on. He is a giraffe after all...I think I may have something and I have my schedule for this week with my days off (and low chance of being called in).
If you use it then that is great, but if not then that is also fine. Who knows, you could use it for those spin-off stories that you just mentioned.
But now...you have given me a new perspective for an Okami story.
^^ if you ever need some luck, then Piglet is your tadpole.

Well Platehead isn't a giraffe exactly but from a extinct species that were ancestors to modern day giraffes called bramatherium. So in terms of this world no one has ever seen an animal like him, so they don't know what to think of Platehead.
Perhaps~Β
And that's good~

Because I was thinking that I was stretching things...what exact time period are we talking about exactly? If Platehead is an extinct species of giraffe...then it has to be back enough to have him be able to exist...

It's set in a fictional China like land called Tongyi, tho its time period is more so akin to like Mulan so it's not futuristic ~ With Plateheads species and the fact this world is made up is how he illogically exists ~
