Description I thought I'd fix this shot up and make it available for prints. I do miss these guys a whole lot. Both of them are now deceased. I've got a bit of Beorn's fur in my personal jewelry though, so it's nice to have him close to me. Enjoy!

Fantastic Shot. I hope to be able to visit your sanctuary some time. It's sad that they passed. The sanctuary I do volunteer work at recently lost one and they have two more that are getting up there in age.

I was doing photo work for the Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary in Montgomery Texas. [link] They lost Khan before I got there this winter, I wish I was there so I could have gotten a picture of him for the volunteers.

I no longer work at the sanctuaries, rather with them if I can. Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary and Mission:Wolf were the two I lived and worked at.

When you work at/with a sanctuary, what is there that you can do? There are not any near me, but, if possible, I might move closer to one.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Wolf-of-Samhain In reply to Shelaum [2009-10-24 18:24:38 +0000 UTC]

There's always something to do at the sanctuaries! I did maintenance mainly from building things, repairing stuff, and destroying things too. LOL! Most volunteers help with feeding preparations, medicines, cleaning, etc. during the day but there is always some projects going on to learn and experience

Shelaum In reply to Wolf-of-Samhain [2009-10-24 23:00:01 +0000 UTC]

When volunteering, do you get to handle the animals at all? I've always wanted to see a wolf up close...I want to offer to help raise them as a foster parent if I can

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Wolf-of-Samhain In reply to Shelaum [2009-10-25 00:39:06 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, you can interact with certain wolves but fostering them is out of the question. Very few people do that and honestly, most don't do a very good job. Wolves are very different from dogs thus handling them is quite different. They are wild animals, not pets.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Shelaum In reply to Wolf-of-Samhain [2009-10-25 00:41:51 +0000 UTC]

Don't they have people raise the pups till a certain age? That's what I mean by foster them I know they're not pets I've never thought of them as a pet, either. It just seems...cruel...

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

Wolf-of-Samhain In reply to Shelaum [2009-10-25 01:20:55 +0000 UTC]

The sanctuary does that should pups be brought in. Sanctuaries will neuter or sterilize the wolves brought in because these animals can not be reintroduced back into the wild and there are virtually no homes suitable for them to live at. The sanctuaries are highly opposed to the breeding of wolves with human assistance. Its rare to get pups and usually only happens when the animals had to be forcefully repossessed from unacceptable/illegal situations. All the wolves that come to sanctuaries are there because it was be there or be dead. That is the harsh reality of it and one of the main reasons of the sanctuaries is to educate about this.

Ah...I didn't know that. It makes sense, though. Thank you very much for letting me know! I'm going to volunteer for a sanctuary, still.

You may want a wolf but a wolf may want to be wild. Just go volunteer for a wolf sanctuary or something in that area

It's very special to me. I was really close to Mr. B. It really sucked when he passed away but fortunately I've got some of his fur and it's stashed away in a safe place. I've used some of it in my personal jewelry. he LOVED coffee. God I miss him

This is a gorgeous picture! I just love how the closest wolf is in perfect clarity and the one in the back is faded out slightly. This came out fantastically well. When I get the extra money, I'm going to buy this print, and display it on my wall with pride.

He is buried atop a beautiful hill where the sun sets in view over miles and miles of rolling hills and mountains. His mate, Nyati, is right by him along with others he knew and loved. It's the best we can do to show our respect.
