I mean, it makes sense. And yes, while Maturin is a Guardian of one of The Dark Tower's beams. He is a God, in a sense most of the Guardians are Godlike but Maturin's the only actual God among their ranks (Despite The Lion being named Aslan, he shares not relation with the actual Aslan in The G-Verse).

So Mikey being The Champion of Maturin makes sense.

"What about the other Ninja Turtles?" Maturin sees any of them as being worthy as well but Mikey's the one who Maturin chooses for well, certain reasons that I won't reveal quite yet but they do relate to a certain clown and his weaknesses, said weaknesses Mikey happens to have as Strengths in Spades.
