Hey, Vectorinos, it’s time for a little trip to the Great White North. To be honest, Skippy the Undead Intern got really excited about Canada while researching Wolverine online so now we gotta do THIS. So let’s dig into the predominate Canuck superhero team: ALPHA FLIGHT!⁣

Elizabeth Twoyoungmen was young when her mother fell terribly ill. Her surgeon father, Michael, promised her he could save her mom. Exhausting traditional medical options, Michael, who had once turned his back on his ancestors' mystical side, delved into the Sarcee People's metaphysical arts for a cure. He learned much quickly, but was too late, and they lost Kathryn. Liz became resentful towards her father, refusing to speak with him, and moved in with their neighbors, The McNeils. The eldest McNeil daughter was Heather, who was like a big sister to Liz (and also the future Vindicator). Michael for his part, moved into the deep Northern woods, isolating himself to properly learn the mystic arts. Father of the year material, folks.⁣

Years later, after the Alpha Flight team was formed, Liz called upon her father, now known as Shaman, for help. She was now studying to become an archaeologist and on a dig had, well -- found a haunted skull. Yep. Comics.⁣

It was then that Shaman discovered Liz's destiny was to become a legendary mystical figure called The Talisman. Reluctantly, he presented her with an ancient artifact called Coronet of Power. Once she placed it on her brow, she was imbued with mystic energies (and a revealing outfit for some reason). Accepting her new title as Talisman, she joined Alpha Flight.⁣

A lack of training & long-held resentment caused a lot of sparks to fly, however. Especially Shaman once had to choose to save the life of either Liz, or his adopted daughter, Snowbird -- and chose the latter (Liz got resurrected by the godlike being the Beyond instead). Deus ex machinas don't count as family time, dad!⁣

Shaman had to take over Liz's role as the Talisman for a time, but Liz eventually came back into the fold when needed and took back the sparkly head piece for good.⁣
