Description *Edited because the ep "Parting of the Ways", which this image is from, has now aired, so I took down the spoiler-warning preview and changed the desc a bit. What an awesome ep!

For those who haven't seen the ep but want an explanation, in this scene, Rose has looked into the "time vortex" of the TARDIS, the Doctor's time-traveling ship, and basically been filled up with a bunch of cosmic power, which she uses to stop the Daleks and their Emperor. Unfortunately, the power is killing her: to save her life, the Doctor kisses her, taking the power into himself -- it "kills" him, causing him to regenerate. I watched the clips of this on the BBC website before the ep aired here in the States, and they have a wallpaper of this image here: [link]

Unfortunately, with the light flare, it's hard to see the details of their faces, so I used another ref or two and "cleaned it up".

I don't agree with series producer Russel T Davies that Rose is "the only companion that is the Doctor's equal" -- that would be the second Ramona in my book, and a few other companions besides (although I have a theory now that Rose may be evolving into a Gallifreyan like the Doctr, especially after this thing with the TARDIS). And Rose is a tech Mary-Sue, truth be told, especially in this ep... but despite this fact, I AM a total Rose/Doctor shipper, and therefore I will forgive/overlook any possible Mary-Sueness. *G*

It figures we wouldn't get this moment until right before he regenerates; while he still is the Doctor afterwards, he's always a bit different each time he regenerates, and I don't just mean in appearance. Though I'm sure she'll get cozy with the 10th Doctor, I'm sure for a least a little bit after this happened, Rose must have felt a bit as if the Doctor really had died. How sad

This poor Doctor has seen his entire race wiped out, giving him a bit of a bitter edge. He still smiles a lot, and is even boyish at times, but there are moments when he's all "big picture-crusader" and forgets the little guy. Rose is both a beacon of hope and, at times, an impromptu conscience for a man who's recently gone through as negatively life-altering an event as anyone ever could. Rose might not always be terribly tech-savy and may sometimes seem to lack an ounce of common sense, but she has a good heart. There's no doubt that, possibly for the first time in the franchise's 25-year+ history, the Doctor's in love -- a deep love born of friendship and shared experiences, the most beautiful kind of love there is, to my mind. ^^ It's really brought a fresh new perspective to his character -- it's a hoot to see him jealous! And I love whenever he grabs her hand and they walk off together -- so cute! ^^ Of course it helps that Eccleston (the Doctor) and Billie Piper (Rose) have really brilliant chemistry together!

I adore Eccleston -- I dare say as much, maybe even more, than Tom Baker. Some of the scripts have been, well, dogs, but he's made even the worst stuff bearable -- his enthusiasm is just so infectuous! I'm heartbroken that I've seen all there is of his Who eps now (though there's still the books! If I can ever find them -- I live in a cultural desert, I swear, no store is carrying them around here!). While I'm be very sad to see him go, I'm not angry with him like some fans (there seems to be a lot of conflicting info around his departure, too). I wish him all the best. He's very involved with charity work, and that makes him a great fellow in my book!

I tend to listen to music that's themed to what I'm working on while I work. For this pic, I chose John Farrar's "Suspended in Time," from the Xanadu soundtrack (warning, this lyric site has popups) [link] , and Bryan Adams' "Don't Let Go", from the Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron soundtrack (this link leads to the lyrics page at his official site) [link]

Done on (really crappy) orange construction paper, with an H-lead pencil, black, white, canary yellow, and burnt umber Prismacolor pencils, and an ebony pencil. I'm actually pretty pleased with this one, it came along pretty smoothly

The best Doctor. The best companion - Rose. The best Doctor Who pairing. Oh my God, am i crying again?
This is beautiful. And it was one of the greatest moments in the whole series. Absolutely. So passionate, so colorful, so natural and so honest. And such a great artwork.

I love Rose Tyler. Nothing makes me smile like a great scene between those two. And nothing breaks my heart like they do.
Psst don't tell I have a sentimental side.

That's lovely! -- did you write it?

CarryPhoenix In reply to WolfenM [2012-12-11 18:25:47 +0000 UTC]

Nope. There's a Russian-language song "Rose and the Doctor", that's kind of poetic translation. Unfortunately, the original's not very well-known.

Is it about *this* Rose & Doctor, or just a wierd coincidence? And who wrote it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CarryPhoenix In reply to WolfenM [2012-12-11 21:51:36 +0000 UTC]

Emmmm... I said it's not too well-known... so I dunno the author, I just found this song while searching for another one... Of course, "this". What coinscidence may be here? "Three hearts of the two", "in love with Who"... more than proofs. And do you know many Doctors with best beloved... Rose? *winks*

WolfenM In reply to CarryPhoenix [2012-12-11 23:26:27 +0000 UTC]

Heh, well you also said it was a poetic translation, so I thought maybe you meant you tweaked it to make it Doctor Who-related, like with "artistic licence". I'm not really comfortable having it posted here without credit to the original author, though, so I'm afraid I'll have to hide the comment, then. Sorry.

This is amazing!!!! I have seen a lot of Dr. Who art on here and there are many pieces that I like but this one just blows me away. This portrait looks exactly like the characters to the point where it could be a photograph... and not a photograph if that makes any sense. I mean it looks like a drawing, but it is VERY accurate in my opinion. And the fact that it is my favorite doctor and companion in all their glowing glory makes me love it all the more!!!

Eccleston was Nine, Tennant was Ten. Do you mean the actor was 35? 'Cause the *character* (Nine) said he was 900 before the ep I illustrated a scene from here. Ten said he was 906 at one point. If you mean the actor, Eccleston was around 40 when they were filming the season (it aired in 2005, and he was born in '64).

Honestly, I am a woman, and even I am annoyed that this "warrior woman" archetype has become mandatory to the point that almost every female character out there is the same/ you can't have a girl with realistic flaws.

KendrixTermina [2011-10-12 22:42:09 +0000 UTC]

An equal...? No, that would be Romana, River or Christina, maybe even Amy, Liz Shaw or Sarah Jane.
I don't think Rose has anything Sue-like about her - and neither does River, for that matter (People need to get it into their heads that no one, neither Moffat nor RTD is trying to make their characters "better" than the ones they like - they are just trying to tell a good story and follow certain what ifs... Gotta use new ideas)
but I don#t think rose NEEDS to be an "equal" - I've always seen her as a very different character archetype, sort of like that "pure-hearted peasant girl" that the princes in fairytales romance when it's not a princess (if certainly a bit cooled-up for the 21th century - contrary to popular opinion, she DID kick ass at times), the sort of simple person who's not smart, cool, rich etc, but compassionate, pure-hearted and caring, more a compliment that a mirror image.

Yeah, I love Eccleston too. Probably just because he was the first doctor I've ever known. I didn't even know about Doctor Who until I came across some old 2005 reruns on the Sci Fi channel. I couldn't even imagine another doctor, but now that I'm more accustom to the whole idea of regeneration I'm warming up to the idea. Still I think he will always be my favorite.

Anyways, I was just browsing and thought this was a lovely representation of the Doctor and Rose, and I thought I should let you know. Excellent.

My favorite Doctor & Rose Moment.
"I think you need a Doctor" brilliant.

So is your picture. Brilliant.

I was a little upset the Eccleston left, because he had so much enthusiasm and i loved his smile.

But then Rose left and all was lost.

have you been keeping up with the latest Doctor?
David Tennant grows on you.
