Description
It was the latest hour of the night and the dark sky hung high above the sheltered ceiling of the den in which Minerva slept.
She lay in a deep sleep a few paw steps away from the clustered piles of fur that was her littermates. The small pup gave only the slightest twitch of an ear to indicate her entrance into the dream world. However this dream was about to turn into a nightmare and change her life forever.

Her blue eyes opened slowly, blinking the sleepy haze away. It was morning already? The pup pondered. The first thing she saw was light pouring into the den; causing her still sleeping family to almost shine in the warm light. Minerva gave a childish giggle and prepared to pounce on the still brown pelt of her father. The pup clumsily collided with his head and tugged at his shredded ear. “Gotcha daddy!”
His ear flicked as a subtle attempt to swat the rambunctious young wolf away, but to no avail. “C’mon daddy lets play!” Minerva yipped wildly. Her big paws drumming the ground excitedly when she heard a huff and saw him lift his head, still facing away from her. His head suddenly twisted at an odd angle to face her. The white pup froze in place. His face was gone.

She tried to scream, but not a sound came out. Her paws scrambled to push herself away and suddenly the ground was cracking and oozing blood beneath her. She blinked and she found herself alone on the jutted edge of a cliff, the rock and soil giving away from under her. The sky nothing but a strange jumble of red. “Daddy! Help!” She finally wailed. But nobody but a strange hum answered her terrified plea. She whipped her head around wildly, her long tail tightly tucked between her legs. When she turned her head around her eyes locked into bright red eyes. The misshapen beast cast no shadow over her head as it glared down at her.

The pup woke up screaming and flailing wildly. Surrounded by her concerned family. Yet even as she was embraced she couldn’t block out the deep voice in her head, whispering into her ears.
