Description This is an oil, playing with the way light and shadow falls on a horse
and can accent its form.
Also My favourite color for horse, as you can see. I tend to paint alot of them.
They seem to be on fire.

Arab type horses were used throuhout the eastern Mediterranean,
especially in ancient times.
in fact these horses were never called "Arab" or "Arabian" until quite recently.
I have seen so many images on ancient coins and reliefe scultures and vase paintings
with horses of this type, that I am convinced these horses where indeed
the F-15's of their day.
The Bedouins simply preserved these ancient horses.

btw nice job on the shape of the horses head. Arabians are probably most famous for their speed, stamina and their figure.
The coat color, Flaxen Chestnut, makes it blend beautifully with the background.

I like them all. I have a filly that is this color, I was sad when she was born cuz I wanted her black like her mother. Now everytime I look at her in the sun she stuns me, the color is perfect for her.

I love horses, especially Arabs, and also a sucker for Mediterranean/Ancient Roman history. Thank you for combining the 2 in this gorgeous painting, you really captured the sheen of the chestnut's coat.

I think I'd definately agree that they were the F-15's of their day, having ridden a few - there's nothing like it - and you've definately captured that essence here

I think this is spectacular the poise and high strung feel of the steed as if he would run off at a shot. How his face is gentle yet alert..aware of what lies ahead. I like how confident, solid and unshakable the man it...like the spark of horse nex to him could ever phase or unsettle. The play of light is stuble...blurred yet effective..the entire image is soft..almost slightly out of foccus...quite a romantic feel.

Gods Id love a print of this!

this reminds of a movie that I'm waiting to come out. Its called "300" and its about 300 hundred spartans that make a last stand against a thousand nations of the persian army and by doing that they unite all of Greece to stand and fight the persians.
Maybe you can look into it - its by the same guy who made the movie "sin city" so I'm sure it will be mind-blowing!
But anyways, i do love the way you paint so I'm going to fav this bro.

Cheers'

I just got the Frank Miller comic, and i love it.
I was'nt thinking about that when I did this one, but I see what you refer to.
Thanks.

Oh you got his comic book!??
Lucky dawg!! The thing i love most about movies based from his comic books is that they try really really hard to make it actually look like a comic book in some scenes. They are able to create beautiful and exagerated depictions of the characters and scenery - Stuff like that really takes my mind/imagination for a spin into a whole new reality!
And you my friend have that ability with your art!!
peace'

My mother used to board horses, and with all that have come and stayed with us over the years, there was a horse that looked like this one here. He was quite the show off for how small he was. Your artistic tallent make me envious indeed; it's fine though, green's my favorite color. Very beautiful. Cheers.^~

Love this one too. You did great on the lighting and the conformation of the horse. It reminded me of a Stubbs painting, only yours is more realistic when it comes to conformation and expression of the horse.

I don't want to give you a big head,.... but you're probably one of the only few artists here on DA that I know if I click on one of your deviations, 95% of the time I will fave. There's something you seem to understand about form and light, the dramatic impact they have on the atmosphere and feel of the painting. This is beautiful.
What do you call this breed of horse in Arabic? I know that they are excellent for endurance, and that is one reason of many they've been loved for hundreds of years. There are few breeds in the world that look this "majestic".

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

wolfman007 In reply to Dyun [2006-11-07 03:11:02 +0000 UTC]

In arabic they are "Kuhaylan Ajuz'
it means the pure breed, or thoroughbred.
Thats where the british got the name.
I could go on and on, but all in all they are magnificent animals. They have inspired many artists, and when you see them in action, you understand it. They seem to be on fire from inside, and yet have an affectionate temperment.

I grew up with arabians and then worked with Thoroughbreds and the rest of the spectrum. Arabians remain my favorite though.

Excellent painting. Ever do sculpture? I can see you doing Edwin A Bogucki style
