Description For
F. In Sen'na you have found a clan that may be beneficial to you to join, but they are very private and require you to prove your dedication/trustworthiness. You will be assigned one of two eventual tasks before you can permanently integrate to prove your worth. What is your task?

Ok so this piece changes the challenges description slightly but hey, you guys said it was flexible! Basically, Tegan has been sold to a minor desert prince who is very happy with his purchase and has matching tack and riding gear made especially for her and even poses under the hot sun to have this portrait done of them both! Tegan, being the show off that she is, is quite happy with her new owner

Maquar, the man with the apples, led her away from the noise and bustle of the market towards a wide avenue lined with elegant white buildings and dotted with fountains that tinkled musically and cooled the air. There were fewer people here and those she saw were mostly well dressed and riding fine palfreys or palanquins or strolling in small groups attended by servants and guards. She followed Maquar down this pleasant boulevard for some time, receiving a number of strange looks and hearing faint words muttered behind hands. The man holding her reins didn’t seem to notice, or else was ignoring the pointed looks directed towards him. He walked along with a purposeful step, one hand loosely holding her reins the other resting on her neck. It would have been quite easy for her to break free with him so loosely restraining her but the calm, quiet man was kind and where would she go? She still had no sense of where home was and she was sure that without help she wouldn’t last long out on the sands. No, it was best to stay with the humans, especially if they had apples.

They were in the heart of the better kept area of the city when Maquar finally walked her through a set of arches that led into one of the building’s sheltered courtyards. The floor here was solid stone instead of packed sand and her hooves clacked loudly against it as she stepped into its centre to stand next to a beautiful white marble fountain . She turned her head about to take in the beautiful sight of all the lush green plants and bright flowers that grew in pots along the entire edge of the yard and wove across a latticed frame above her, forming a natural, leafy ceiling. These flowers must have been pampered! A true display of wealth to have water to spare for so much greenery in such a dry place. Whoever owned this mansion had his own personal oasis.

A servant peered at them through another smaller archway before running off back inside the building. Some minutes and half an apple later, a tall young man wrapped in a rich robe embroidered with a maze of patterns and colours appeared from an ornately carved archway directly opposite the one they’d entered through.

“Gracious, Maquar! You walked her straight up The Way I hear?!” His voice was smooth and rich, a cultured voice, used to wealth. Maquar said nothing but dropped to his knees before his master. “Now, now, none of that,” exclaimed the lordling exasperatedly, “on your feet.” Maquar stood once more. “Now, she is a fine thing, isn’t she?” the man walked a wide circle about her and Tegan turned her head to keep him in her sight. “And inquisitive too!” the man was in front of her now and stepped forward, hand stretched out to stroke her face. Tegan snorted and jerked back but Maquar’s grip on her was stronger than she’d thought and she didn’t get far. Maquar placed a steadying hand on her side and held out the other half of the apple, she sniffed at it and reached to take a bite but he moved it out the way, closer to his master. Annoyed she stepped forward, following her apple, until she was close enough to eat it. By that time Maquar had placed the apple in the outstretched hand of his master who smiled vaguely at the incident. Not at all annoyed by the display of wilfulness as another lord may have been.

Tegan allowed him to stroke her neck and brush her mane with his fingers whilst she finished the treat and watched him with wary eyes. She did not like him as much as Maquar but he was certainly more like the lordly owner she’d been promised. “Excellent,” decided the man. “Well, I’m quite happy with this, cancel my appointments for today, there’s something else I’d rather do!”

The rest of the day was taken up with standing around. First she stood for hours whilst she was meticulously groomed and great swathes of dark cloth was measured against her, then she was tacked up in gear very different from what she’d worn in the desert but far more lavish before being led out into the sun with her new man on her back to pose for a portrait. It was a long day and she relished the respite at the end of it when she was assigned her own indoor stable with her own small fountain and heaps of sweet hay. It was a great improvement on her life in the desert. A life she could definitely get used to!

All of Tegan's adornments are so beautiful! I really like that deep burgundy; it really works well with her coat color.

I played around with different colours for ages, I quite like the woven patchwork style of some arabian tack but in the end I decided to go simple, mainly because it'll be far easier to draw again on her in other images but also I really liked it after I'd drawn it^^ Thank you, glad you like it.

I thought I had commented here?!

I love her tack, she's looking very nice in it. Especially the braid in her tail there! A gorgeous character

Hehe, thank you very much^^ Despite not being an overly "girly" character she sure does like to have fine clothes/gear and pretty hair!

What a cute story! Life's looking up for Tegan.

That tack is gorgeous, by the way. Are you basing it on anything in particular?

Thanks^^ Yup, life's goof for her right now! It gets a little darker for her later though unfortunately... Seems she's a much more contented and relaxed character when she believes she's a horse, it won't be the same situation when she realises she isn't meant to be "owned" by someone. But more of that later XD

Hmmm, It's a sort of variation of traditional arabian gear but parts of it look more like barding from a warhorse, since that's the style I usually work with. I basically typed in "arab horse ceremonial tack" on google images and DA to get a rough idea of styles and designs then made my own based off of those^^

That's really neat. I love Arabic, Turkish, and Mongolian tack, so it was really cool seeing your take on it.
