So, yeah, I didn't know if I would get him done in time for AnimeNext '10 or not, but I did, so yay. ^^ I LOVE how he came out- so much fun to draw and color, I swear, but the lines on his suit were stupidly difficult to figure out and get down on the paper. Anyway. LOOK, IT'S A VAN! >u<

i don't know. People say I just blame everything on my disability, but I really think my austim hampers my art. I can't draw bodies correctly, i know nothing of shading, and even when I can draw something, I have to look back and forth at an already existing image as a base, and I hate doing that.

Well, the good news is that all of the stuff you're mentioning can be improved with practice. ^^ If you think that your autism really does hinder your ability to draw... Don't let it! Or, at least, don't let it get to you. If drawing is something you love, you'll get better the more you draw no matter what. >u< Having to look at a reference is something that everyone does, really- some people less that others, but getting information from the references is great practice for when you don't have one later! ^^
Hang on, I want to find something...Okay! ^^ Look at the difference between this deviation of yours [link] and this more recent one [link] . I see instant improvement- your body proportions are much more accurate, for starters, and all of your hard work definitely paid off! ^^ There's only a few months' time difference between these two, but a huge improvement already. >u< The shading is a bit minimalist, but again, you develop it with a ton of practice. And remember- not every practice piece will be a masterpiece! In fact, nearly none of them will be. XD I've got SO many garbage sketches, it's absurd....

well when i did that 2nd one, I had a refernce picture to follow, and the artist in me really hates using bases, like it shows me i can't draw anything without one. If i tried to draw free-handed without a reference, it'd end up looking like the first one. I'm basically at a roadblock here.

I understand about you not wanting to use references, really! I can't stand having to look at someone else's picture or photograph to get mine right- but sometimes, I have to. There's some details that I just can't get right otherwise! Proportions, clothing wrinkles, facial expressions... All of it, I still find myself looking up references to make sure I got everything right.
How long have you been drawing for? Keep in mind that practice is everything, so if you just started drawing in, say, January (that was the oldest drawn deviation of yours that I remember seeing), you can't expect perfection yet! ^^ Like I said, your improvement between those two deviations is distinct and definite. I know you don't like using any reference material, but think about this- the more you use it now and get yourself used to the proportions and placing of bodies and limbs, the easier it will be to recreate those figures without any reference at all later on!
