I apologize in advance for the number of tiger pictures that are about to flood your inbox.

This is Chelsea and her daughter Sohni (pronounced like Sony), two Sumatran Tigers. Sohni and her brother Sanjiv are currently 4 months old, Chelsea is 7 years old, and Kavi, the father of the cubs, is 10 years old. This is the first decent picture that I've gotten of Chelsea, and I'm glad that one of the cubs was in it with her. It's easy to see just how tiny they are right now.

Experts estimate that there are less than 400 Sumatran Tigers left in existence, making Sanjiv and Sohni two of the rarest babies in the world. Since Chelsea is currently caring for the cubs and won't be ready to mate again any time soon, there's been talk of sending Kavi off to a zoo in DC so that he can mate with a female there. I'm not sure if he would be coming back to our zoo, but I think that there's a good chance of it. When they're older, the cubs will be sent off to different zoos so that they can breed too.
