Personality & Background
Winifred was born in Holywell, Wales, a fairly large Welsh city named for the holy well that sprang forth from the ground when St. Winnifred was resurrected. Winnifred was named for said Saint, who was martyred for her devotion to her abstinence. Winnifred's father & mother hoped that this naming would keep their daughter pure & innocent. She is indeed very innocent, not knowing much of the real world. Winnifred goes by two nicknames; Winnie & Fred. The latter name is one she does not particularly care for. Winnie has a light Welsh accent, but she isn't very talkative, so picking up on it is hard to do. She is a free spirited girl with a go-getter attitude. She keeps an open mind to the thoughts & ideas of others. Because unicorns are solitary animals, she did not grow up with her parents or a family unit, making her fairly independent. All unicorns can disguise themselves in human forme, but this skill is one that Winnie lacks in. Her ears & tail remain while a star shaped mark where her horn is adorns her forehead. She is embarrassed by her lack of control with magic. A fully realized unicorn can produce great & powerful magic...Winnifred has trouble casting the simplest of spells.

She is a bit shy at first, wary & cautious of strangers. It does take her a longer amount of time to trust people she meets, but if said people can earn that trust, they will have a friend until the end. Unicorns are monogamous creatures who bond for life. Winnie is no different & remains fiercely loyal to any friend she makes, no matter how they scorn her. She gets very distraught if she believes she has hurt someone (emotionally or physically, though it's unlikely she'd do the latter) & insists that any altercation between friends must be her fault. She blames herself for many things. She has a self-deprecating personality.

Quirks & Habits & Trivia

She is very much a self-loathing person. She has low self esteem & an an inferiority complex. This is due to her initial weakness as a child; Winnie often found herself sick or injured with no one to comfort or care for her. The depreciation of herself often sends her into bouts of despondency & depression..but she always manages to cheer herself up again.

She is mesmerized by the cosmos & never misses a chance to see a meteor shower or other phenomenal occurrence in the sky. Full moons & new moons fascinate her to no end.

Like all unicorns, she is absolutely devoted to the beckon call of pure, holy figures. (i.e.; saints, virgins, priests...) She herself is interested in all religions of the world & ties herself in many faiths.

As previously stated, she is devoted to her friends. She would fiercely defend them from any threat, weather it be an antagonizer or something truly evil.

The blood of a unicorn is silver when it is exposed to air...quite a beautiful liquid that many people covet. Drinking the blood of a unicorn grants immortality, but is said to contemn the drinker, who would harm such an inviolate, wide-eyed creature.

The one spell that Winnifred is capable of using is an antidote technique. All unicorn horns are imbued with an anti-toxin that neutralizes any poison. She can heal many afflictions with this simple magic.

She is a strict vegan. The unicorn is a picky creature that only feeds off of saplings. Winnifred has expanded her diet to veganism & is disgusted when she sees someone devouring meat. She has been known to faint at the sight & smell of it.

She is fast on her feet & rather good at fitting into small spaces. An expert at hiding as well. (She spent much of her childhood running & hiding from those that would hunt the untainted, holy animal for her horn & blood.)

She has a beautiful singing voice but her shyness keeps her from using it very often.

She has a heightened sense of smell. Certain aromas trigger different emotions & feelings. Some of these smells are;
Fennel (the smell gives her horrible headaches.)
Honeysuckle (a sort of euphoria...very happy feelings. Great for her depression.)
Old furniture smell (nostalgia & often sadness)
Fresh linen (she becomes drowsy)
Smoke (feelings of claustrophobia & helplessness)
Magnolia (serenity & occasionally, hints of attraction)

Winnifred is a creature of light. Being in the presence of those with a darker aura makes her uncomfortable to the point of panic in some cases. You can tell she is afraid when her already deer-in-the-headlights eyes widen & become glassy with pent up emotion.

When she traveled to New Orleans by boat when she turned 17, she quickly adjusted her language style to the slang & terms of America, keeping her accent however.

She doesn't know the exact date of her birthday but instead bases it on the blooming of trees & flowers. Once every plant has bloomed, she knows she has turned a year older. (This puts her birthday sometime towards the end of May.)

She appreciates nature & all things living. Winnifred enjoys bird watching & "flower watching." (Picking flowers is cruel in her eyes, so she just visits the same flowers everyday to look at their beauty.)

Other Information

Strengths include: Not much in this category. Her healing spell, speed, & devotion are her only real "strengths". She cannot find anything else good about herself.

Weaknesses include: Her self-deprecating attitude limits her potential & makes her easy to manipulate. In overall power she is lacking & her magic isn't well controlled. She feels inferior to almost everyone around her. She left Wales to escape those who pursued her, & memories of the hunts she so narrowly escaped still haunt her.

Goal(s): To develop lasting bonds...& maybe work on that depreciation while she's at it.

Asdfghjkl; Winnifred is the most troubled character I've ever created! Even more so than Sheiki, I think. I don't usually go for characters like this. I have experience writing for self-loathing characters though, so I thought it'd be cool to give it another go. I don't like stuttering characters. She is NOT a stutterer. I hope I can help poor Winnie make some friends & get over her depression!!
