Description Hello there fans! WonderWill here with a new movie review for today! Stanley Kubrick is one of the masters of cinema. He directed films such as Full Metal Jacket, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, and this movie. It's known to be infamously despised by the original book's author, Stephen King due to it being not faithful to the source material at all. With that said, Stanley Kubrick's The Shining!

SynopsisThe movie's about a man named Jack Torrance, as he becomes the winter caretaker of the isolated Overlook Hotel in Colorado in high hopes that he'll be cured of his writer's block. He gets settled in with his wife, Wendy, and his son, Danny, whom is bothered by psychic premonitions called the Shining. As months go by, Jack's writing goes nowhere and Danny's perception of the hotel gets more disturbing. Jack willingly discovers the hotel's infamous secret and suddenly becomes a homicidal maniac dead set on killing his own family.

The ReviewWhen I first saw this movie about 2 years ago, I thought that it was really great, after 2 more times, I began to see the message behind the movie and still thought it was really awesome. The story is loosely faithful to the original book by Stephen King as it takes a few liberties with its story. The themes of the movie are quite psychologically complex and pretty intriguing. The writing and screenplay is really fantastic and interesting to know about. The cinematography is some of the best I've ever seen, for example, the opening sequence. The score for the movie was creepily unsettling and works well with the tone of the movie. The direction of Stanley Kubrick is quite masterful and really enjoyable. The practical effects were stunning and quite brilliant. The performances are really wonderful and pretty good if I say so myself, especially for Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. The supporting characters are really good as well. The scares here are perfectly terrifying, especially the "Here's Johnny!" scene. Finally, the picture frame in the final scene of the movie, that has been a discussion for about 40 years. What does it mean? What does it say about the protagonist?, etc. So, what's the verdict?

VerdictA perfect example of psychological horror and thriller, The Shining is one of the best thrillers I've seen. It has astonishing cinematography, best dialogue, amazing character development, and awesome score. This one I definitely recommend this to everyone who likes thrillers and horror movies. I'm going to give this one a Star of Stars!

Well, that's all for my review for today. I know that it isn't another installment of WilliamReview's SpookFest because Halloween is over now, but at least you got the review, right? So, for the next movie review… a surprise for something that's celebrating 50 years. Until then… Keep on making peace with art! Until then…

I'm gonna assume the next review is a Sesame Street-related film?
