Just spent two months working on a sheep ranch in Utah. 2,200 sheep giving birth. I can safely say I've held at least 1,000 lambs in my life Β
It's pretty awesome though.

Hmm old photo, think I'll answer your question even though.

Yes, I held a baby lamb. My folks had a small farm, my mom mostly ran it while my day did his day job. We never had any lambs though. Chickens, ducks and rabbits; yes, lambs/sheep; no. Us kids looked after the livestock while my mom tended the crops. I don't ever suggest holding a rabbit. They will tear your arm up bloody. My arms were usually cut up badly because I couldn't hold them up by the ears; the recommended way to hold them.

We used to go to petting zoos though at the county fair or some such. Sometimes we went to larger farms that allowed visiting folks. Most times if we visited a farm though, the kids could expect to be assigned chores while the adults talked.Β  Lambs are cute as most animals are when they are young. Sheep are a chore though. Especially when spring comes. Shearing. Oookay. That's an experience but a necessary one if you are serious about raising a lamb (unless you get a sheep that sheds and thus doesn't need shearing, while carpet wool sheep need to be sheared twice a year! (the rest only once in the spring time)).

Unless you want another full time job, I recommend starting out just going to a local farm and helping out. Some sheep farms leave the shearing to the professionals though.

I used to have lots of goats! We bred them, though didn't end up selling to many of the babies. Baby goats are absolutely adorable!

I love this picture, the lambs so cute, and it's a good picture of you too! I've never held a lamb or raised one before. The only animals I've ever raised have been dogs and ducks. But that would be a wonderful opportunity to get to hold a lamb someday! They look so soft

Yes I did! Actually a few of them. I moved to NZ 3 years ago and we have a life style block at the moment with some sheep. Never had to raise one luckily they have all good mums. No time with my study. They are adorable though. Have fun here in NZ! I hope you love it as much as I do.

I own 3 and I have had 4 bottle fed lambs at my house at once and raised a lamb with a broken leg for 5 months in my house as well. Also had some pygmy goats in my house bottle feeding for awhile. They live at my old high schools farm for kids to show them at fairs. Just dont let them suck on your finger too much or they will cut you with the sharp teeth in the back
