Wood, Can you please reply, Im working on a Progress of my own,

Do you use Fur for the Outside of the Body?

ElementalxGaze In reply to voloras [2014-06-02 15:03:52 +0000 UTC]

This whole thing is made of sculpey baking clay then painted. To get the fur effect she used a toothpick tool to create the 'fluff' once you learn how to drag and scoop with a tool you can make things very detailed like she does. You can see what I mean by her other progress picturesΒ wood-splitter-lee.deviantart.c…

Do you keep the pole support in it for the entire time or is it only for support while sculpting?Β

The armature stays in the sculpture forever.Β

Wood-Splitter-Lee In reply to Glacialwolf13 [2013-12-09 18:01:21 +0000 UTC]

The eyes are clay as well, sculpted right onto the face as seen here: wood-splitter-lee.deviantart.c…

thanks you for the response! if you dont mind me asking something else, now i COMPLETELY understand if you wish not to share this info, but...

-in your picture of the WIP of your wolf head, its seperate from the armature, so how do you attach it? ( im talking about this:Β wood-splitter-lee.deviantart.c…

- how do you dye the faux fur? i use watered down acrylic paint, is this what you use? and how do you paint all the stripes and swirls into the fur while making the fur remain soft?

- another question, can I ask the proper way to blend acrylic paint? like in the head of this poseable art doll you made:Β

wood-splitter-lee.deviantart.c… if you see, around the rim of the eys, theres white streaks. how do you go about blending the white into the grey, then the black? ( another example is this:Β wood-splitter-lee.deviantart.c… ... how do you blend the black to end in white tips of the fur on the sculpted face?)

- one more question, how do you get such detail in the eyes, a small paintbrush? and how do the eyes looks so glossy?

I understand if you dont want to share some of these questions, or if you just want to give some basic tips on them. but if you have a response to any of these, please note me, I want to learn from the best sculpter i've seen around dA!

So THATS how you get them to stand up How do you remove the stand? I use/have Sculpey clay. How did you get so good?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Wood-Splitter-Lee In reply to Forgotten-Kingdom [2013-07-14 04:45:43 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! The stand just twists out form the tummy when I'm done. And how did I get so good? .... Well I had absolutely no art talent at all until I turned age 13, I randomly picked up some clay one day and this happened on one of my first tries: [link] ....so I just thank God every day for the natural ability's he's blessed me with.

WalexGalaxy In reply to Forgotten-Kingdom [2013-07-14 02:15:54 +0000 UTC]

Normally people don't remove the stand. Some people, instead of using wires with the pole, use foil and shape it then just place the clay over the foil, it can end up like this too if the foil is strong enough.

Forgotten-Kingdom In reply to WalexGalaxy [2013-07-14 02:59:20 +0000 UTC]

How do you cover it? My foil ones are flimsy D:

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

WalexGalaxy In reply to Forgotten-Kingdom [2013-07-15 05:44:45 +0000 UTC]

Well foil is normally harder than using wires because of that reason, you just place it all around the foil making the true form and details.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Forgotten-Kingdom In reply to WalexGalaxy [2013-07-15 15:49:47 +0000 UTC]

I used a combo of wire and foil and it worked great
