Description
I summon a light against the dark.
I summon a friend against an enemy I do not know,
I summon the stranger with the many mantles.
I summon the man with eternity in his eye, and magic in his blood.
I summon Kell.
There are books that are just important, something about them makes them more personal than just “that book which I really liked”. For me these are usually the ones that helped me through a hard time, that - despite everything that happened in real life at that time - brought smile on my face and made me feel something warm, even thought I felt empty and cold.
Shades of Magic guided me through a hard time recently, when a big part of my personal life just crumbled down and left me panicked, confused and shocked, but most of all emotionally numb. They aren’t flawless, they aren’t the absolute best books ever and I’m not going to pretend that they are some sort of masterpiece everybody should read. But for me they were an incredible adventure, a safe place to hide and to get in touch with my emotions and neglected ideals, and a spark, that reminded me of how much I love reading in general. I loved all three of them, but it’s the first one, The Darker Shade of Magic, that became that important kind of book. It was an invitation to a strange worlds I knew nothing about, a meeting with the most fascinating characters that became a part of me, and a gentle light that kept the bitterness and regrets at bay.
So it’s about time that I finish painting my favourite character, Kell. The man with eternity in his eye, magic in his blood and perpetual scowl on his face)
