Description

An Sd.Kfz. 6 half-track artillery tractor, standing next to a 10,5 cm leichte Feldhaubitze 18 (light field howitzer) in the new Armoured Warfare Museum, near the Poznan Ławica Airport.

The Sd.Kfz. 6 was one of the series of half-tracked artillery tractors and recovery vehicles, of which the most famous was its bigger brother, the Sd.Kfz. 9 FAMO. This particular vehicle was captured and used by the Red Army soldiers, who dumped it into a canal once it was no longer needed. It was excavated by the museum in 2011, and about a year later it was put on display for the first time , already restored to a running condition.

The 10,5 cm light howitzer was acquired from Polish Military Hardware Museum, Warsaw, in late 2017. Until 2016, this particular gun was exhibited in Dukla, in south-eastern Poland, where it was transfered from a Feature Film Studio in Łódź. Of interesting note, one such gun was used during the shooting of "Four Tankmen and a Dog"; in the 5th episode of the series, the "Rudy 102" tank rams one such gun during the assault on Studzianki farm. However, it is unlikely that this is the same gun here.

Because the Sd.Kfz. 6 was a dedicated towing vehicle for the gun, its crew and ammo, they were put on display next to each other once the museum moved to its new location in late 2019.

Looks damn good for dumped in a canal. Put a lot of time and work into it.
