Description Baby Red fox (vulpes vulpes, liska obecna) from ZOO Ohrada, Hluboká nad Vltavou, Czech republic.

Edit: I find absolutely horrific how many people seem to be disgusted by seeing an animal eating other animal. NO, my dear guys, I am NOT putting a filtre on this photo. If your parents did not teach you the most basic fact about nature - that some animals NATURALLY eat other animals - I hope my photos would teach other kids about it. I think it is really TWISTED if you feel there is something bad about the most natural thing on a planet - animal feeding itself to stay alive. Shame on you for not being able to accept it! You are scary. YOU. Not the photo.

FUR ON YOUR BACK IS BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS!
____________

INFO ABOUT THE ANIMAL:

Name: Red fox (vulpes vulpes)
Location: red fox is native to North America, whole Europe, whole Asia, north Africa and it was introduced to Australia
Size: 100 cm long body + 45 cm long tail, 40 cm high weight: 12 kg
Diet: red foxes are omnivorous and are highly opportunistic, so they eat almost everything from small insects to cranes. Red foxes hunt insects, worms, fish, birds, mice, rabbits, crayfish, baby deers. But they eat also fruit (apples, blackberries...) and plants.
Conservation status: Least Concern (the most common carnivora)
Interesting facts: red fox can hide its food to find it later | usually five cubs are born blind and helpless in the burrow | foxes have many colour variations: usually – ginger-red, but also black or silver, Unfortunately, red fox is kept by fur farms and some ----- torture them just to gain their fur. Red foxes are also hunted by so called ,,sportmen“ | red foxes suffer from rabies | red fox is considered to be vermit | red foxes produce pretty weird sounds XD | foxes in the wild live only some 4 years, but they can reach 12 years in captivity
Enemies: golden eagles, gray wolves, cougars, lynxes, coyotes, badgers, wolverines
Legend: foxes play important role in many myths and legend. Due their inteligence, they have become symbol of slyness and cunning. They are also very popular animals, who have role in many fairy tales. In the Czech republic, author Rudolf Tesnohlidek wrote very famous book about very clever hand-rised vixen called Bystrouska. I loved that book and also it funny happy end!

I don’t eat meat myself,  I see nothing wrong with this picture. Not every animal can be a herbivore.

The fox is cute! 🦊

the real question is what is it eating and how did it get away with such a haul? I would assume other foxes or predators would try to steal some of that fox's loot.

I guess so. But still, how did the fox get away with such a bounty? Wouldn't other animals try to steal some of the food?

When kids whine about this kind of stuff, I laugh because animals in the wild kill their prey humanely. We humans- certainly do not.

woxys In reply to Mori-Desuu [2015-07-11 21:21:14 +0000 UTC]

well, in fact some animals are pretty cruel when it comes to killing - cats, orcas... dolphins... It is just a myth that we humans are the only creatures killing a) for fun b) cruelly

you could also point how a wolf kills a deer, compared to how a gunshot kills one

of that ...

woxys In reply to Mori-Desuu [2015-07-14 22:19:57 +0000 UTC]

nope, in fact quite a lot of animals kill not just for food: females kill babies of other mothers, males kill babies they have not fathered, males kill males when they fight for females and some animals kill "for sport", like otters, dolphins, wolves... it is called surplus killing!

Adorable
And in the case that children may see this argument. I'd have no problem with my child seing this. I have watched nature programs since I can remember and this is just a fox being fed. Just because its not mushed up and unrecognisable doesn't make it disgusting . I think its important for children to know where food is from and how nature works. I have had a similar problem in the past over a picture of snake  eating a mouse (on my fb page). Its funny how no one is offended by cats eating cat food. Even though its the same subject.

I've fed live mice to snakes before... feel sorry for the mice, but hey welcome to life. It's hard to believe that people actually get triggered by such basic things as the food chain...

Daw
I know that expression, my cats would do things like this XDDD it's so cute

I undertand some people wanting a filter, and although it makes me sad to see chicks, it's obvious in the image that they were already dead. Since no obvious blood or innards are showing, I think it's fine to not put a filter on it. If it had one, I'd almost be....disappointed? with how tame the image turns out to be.

I mean hey, I eat chicken all the time, and I know they didn't grow it in a lab when the package says "free-range" or "fed only: "

Lol. Foxes Sure looks like a happy fox to me! Also, that fur looks amazing. That fox is definitely being well cared for. Great shot, Woxys!

I'm still curious what about this image wouldn't be fine for all ages? Apparently art of things eating is now too traumatic for a child? Seriously, what? When did people start thinking themselves so sententious as to say consumption of food matter is too unclean for their perfect society? People scare me sometimes.

What a greedy little guy!  Reminds me of my parrot--tries to stuff her beak full before finding a spot to eat--only she ends up accidentally dropping most it because she can't hold all of it with her foot!

Of course, as far as this little fox knows--this could be his last meal....he had better stock up!

OH MY GOD IT'S EATING POOR DEAD CHICKS!! HOW DARE YOU POST IT WITHOUT A FILTER.

But seriously... What kind of world those people live in?
I digged through all the comments and I'm shocked.

GUYS WAKE THE HELL UP.
Animals eat meat. Damn... You eat meat... (unless you've a vegetarian or a unicorn, I get it)
It's natural... Don't you ever feed your poor dog with meat?
Don't you ever eat chicken breasts for a dinner? Chicken nuggets anyone?
There is no difference.
NOT AT ALL.
Animals don't use plates, they don't skin their food, they don't cook it. They eat it.

And if you feel offended/shocked/anything... Don't go to restaurant... there are living creatures... and they EAT.

GEEZ... I've lost faith in humanity, congrats.

No way he can fit all that in his tummy! Great pic-
I blame all the "EWWW" comments on the disneyfication of the masses- just like the idiots I see walking out to pet a wild bison in Yellowstone, or the guy I saw trying to get a wild bear in the car with his wife for a photo. Some folks have seriously distorted views of wild animals- its not like wild canines eat kibble

duck113 In reply to FlameQuill [2016-12-13 19:16:25 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunately not kidding- the bear was patient for a while, then got annoyed & chased the guy around the car a couple of times. It obviously was not trying to catch him, just making a point. The wild bison thing- a see that a couple of times a year. I just leave- I have no desire to have images of an idiot getting stomped or gored permanently in my brain.  I even overheard a New York gal asking in Yellowstone where the cages were for all the animals- she thought keepers let them out for the visitors to have photo ops. When the guide explained that there were no cages, these were wild animals, she pitched a fit - "you mean they just let those animals go where ever they want to?! That's dangerous!!"

I find your edit somewhat funny when I think of a situation me and my friend experienced during high school.
We were watching the Green Planet, or some kind of documentary and a mommy fox stole a chick from a nest. Of course the chick looked up at the camera and cheeped and everyone hated the foxes.

When my friend and I saw the baby foxes being fed in the film we commented on how adorable they were and that we wanted one. Of course we know we can't have foxes as pets as they are wild animals. The rest of our class gave us looks which were similar to glares and commented on how cruel my friend and I are.

Circle of Life people.
