Description Wonderful Ruwani, female Sri Lankan leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya, levhart cejlonsky) from ZOO Brno, Czech republic...

Story of the title: Ruwani, my beloved leopard, died today. She was killed by the male, when ZOO keepers put both animals together to make them mate. I loved her nice face and cute curled tail, which was her sign...

She has been forced for mating. Kind of pushing something to be raped. And also died. At least keepers should have some tools for this situation. Like a fire extinguiesher. I can imagine their knowledge. They don't even know their own animals. Big shame. Undescrible shame on them. Hope they got fired at least, and they never get another job in a zoo.

*BIIIIIIIIIG FACEPALM*

You know, when ZOOs are doing the best to save some species, they somehow need to BREED IT. This cat is critically endangered. Every single kitten is a big hope for WHOLE species. The male has already fathered several babies and there were never problems with him. And yeah, they need to find individuals which match. When they connect cats for mating, they always control them, trying to be able to separate them if they would need to do that. This time, the male was just too fast. But they HAD tools. They were ready with water and other tools for separation.

Lol, for you, there is absolutely TYPICAL quote, which 100% match you: "everybody is a general AFTER the battle".

Honestly, you know nothing about it.

They have failed! What did they do to stop the bloodspilling? I guess nothing, maybe just standing with some prayers. And gave them some water... Meh,i know we need baby cats, im not stupid, i know the selection is very important, but they should leave the business for other Zoo or real professionals who can deal with the task! Some weekend feeding girls should stay at home. There is no excuse for failure like this. The big ass Zoos around the world have tons of animals around who cares if one or two dies yes??
There is a little Zoo not so far from here, almost in the neighbor, with some lions and bengal tigers. I know the owners since nursery, and i know they could never accept a loss like this in THAT way.

No im not, i feel sorry if you think that way, there are more alternatives for breeding, but im not here to give free educations, obviously outsiders can accept easily such incident, but this is one of the biggest omissions that can happen in a zoo. Those who not appropriate for this work should do library job, or go a kindergarten. This is how it works in my country.

Case closed.

Poor little thing... This is a common loss for us who fight together for big cats.

If you don't like zoos, don't look at pictures of animals taken in zoos. Plan and simple.

First of all, not every pic can be instantly recognised as a "zoo-animal-pic"

"If you don't like zoos, don't look at pictures of animals taken in zoos. Plan and simple."

So, if you donΒ΄t like something you look away?

Those animals would DIE in the wild. And FYI: Most respecatble zoos work on reintroducing those animals into the wild. Get your facts right.

SterbendeMaria In reply to NatalieBaileyHardin [2011-11-26 23:40:53 +0000 UTC]

Did you ever whatch the animals when you were in a zoo? Especially the mammals have extremely behavioral disorders.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NatalieBaileyHardin In reply to SterbendeMaria [2011-11-26 23:43:15 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I have. I've watched tons of shows about them as well. RESPECTABLE zoos are more like a SANCTUARY than a zoo. They have a great environment they live in, and are taken care of daily. "extremely" is the wrong word as well. It should be "extreme" and no they don't.
