Description It occured to be about a week ago that I hadn't done very many pictures of Nat doing "Nat" stuff recently. So here is Nat doing "Nat" stuff, about to take on an enemy tank with her P90 and M-72. The city that she's in isn't any specific one, just a random European city, probably somewhere wet and cold. And no, it isn't WWII. I'm assumeing that most people know the P90 by now. The M-72 is a disposeable 66mm rocket launcher, used to give infantry units a bit of transportable punch. It is issued projectile and launcher as a single round. It consists of two tubes. You pull the inner tube out from the outer one, this cocks the weapon and raises the sight. Point it at the enemy, press the trigger and throw the whole thing away. Nat is modelling Urban Warfare combat fatigues with special forces black combat vest and accesories Also note the standard issue Wraith 11 combat boots.

I gotta admit, I'm pretty proud of this one. I like the way that the layout came out, and the shadeing. Yes the shading is meant to be a bit rough. The only thing that sort of dissappoints me are a few minor details that I missed on the tank (like headlights). I've got a rough sketch I did in pen of this one soemwhere. Should put it in scraps in the next couple of days.

Oh well, have fun. Full view if you want, it is quite detailed.

This is a pretty kick-ass thing you got here and this looks like something my friend at school would draw, just his would have WAY less detail.

Haha, cheers mate... to be honest there's nothing like a boring class to get detail into a picture: listen to lecturer for a bit, scribble something else in, rinse, wash, repeat

Hell of a job you did with this. Really like the whole composition, I'd like to ask though, did you outline all of the lines with pen? It looks real sharp.

Nice work! The atmosphere and the excitement is just suburb. You can almost hear the heart pounding and the tank tracks on the pavement... Have you ever fired M-72? I have... although in Finnish army it's 66 KES 88.. still the same thing, I recognize it. Very well drawn... I must mention that if she actually decides to shoot from THAT distance... well I don't think it ends well, for either one.

Unfortunately I haven't, maybe when I finally get my act together and join the Reserves over here.

Yeah, the range is a bit short... thankfully Nat's mildly indestructible

Lol, thanks. I actually used to have a way of describing her: Basically imagine that, for some God unknown reason, Sousuke and Mother (character from Matthew Reilly novels) had a love child. This kid was then trained by the Scarecrow (another MR char, guess who my favorite author is) from birth to the age of 19 and somehow picked up social skills and a cast iron liver along the way... now make her about a hundred times more hardcore and you'd have Nat.

I think my favorite bit about her character is that she developed herself. She started off as a VERY minor support character in a fic, then about chapter five decided she wasn't interested in supporting, picked up an MP5KA4, and literally blasted her way to the front of the story. Though the fan-ficing stage has long gone (I'm so ashamed) Nat's just stuck around

Well, I for one, am glad she has!
As a mother of four girls, it saddens me to see the general lack of self-respect that most females in the world have these days. So I think that is part of the reason why I love movies/books/tv shows with very strong, independent females. Gives girls something to aim for OTHER than the emaciated, airbrushed model looks that mass media bombards us with. Know what I mean?

Yep, I DEFINATELY know what you mean. Nothing pisses me off more than really "girly" girls... or as the good WOFF would have put it "froooootcakes" (refering to her little sister).

Definately reccoment you take a look at Matthew Reilly's books, start off with "Ice Station". It's about 600 pages long and I reckon you'll have it read in three days flat. If in doubt check his website [link] go to exclusives and find the short stories... reccomend "Altitude Rush"...

'cause they're buttoned up for action, well, that's my excuse. Actually I just got lazy. And yes, it is a pretty effective manuver.

Haha! This is GREAT! Of course, the P90 is a Belgian submachine gun that's compact enough for everyone to carry one... top loading magazine is kind of unusual, but high capacity.

You've done an amazing job with perspective, and the use of line couldn't be better. You have some serious talent.

Damn...the perspective and level of detail in this pic are amazing..... nothing looks out of place here (and I wouldn't sweat the large imagesize, there's plenty to see everywhere in the pic and I'd say that justifies it )

The only issue is with with your character Nat's face, there's not a lot of detail in her eyes and hair, but that's a minor nitpick in the grand scheme of things (no way I could put that much detail in a pic )

I especially like the damage effects in the surroundings, that really helps set the mood nicely

...I'd have made a manga comic already if I could draw THAT much detail... Great work!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

wraith11 In reply to d-nutt [2004-10-27 06:08:53 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, faces aren't really my strong point, so I tend to not put much detail in for fear of messing it up. I really should sit down at some point and figure out how to do facial details better.

Glad you liked it, and thanks for the comment.

Damn. That's big. My computer is still loading. The rough sketchiness of it lends to the whole "feeling" of the piece. Love the perspective on the tank. That's cool. You do perspective well. I don't. Everyone just stares at my perspective pieces for hours wondering what the heck it is until I tell them, "a hand." and then they're like, "OH!!! ...right..." But I can definitely tell that's the barrel thing of the tank thing. Ain't I literate. Moooooost eeeeeexcellent pic.

wraith11 In reply to OneWhoWillKillYou [2004-10-26 06:47:21 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, sorry about the size. Once I figure out how to work Photoshop I can do something about that.
Net time you're doing perspective, try this: block everything out first with cylinders for limbs and spheres for joints. Do it so that you can see everything, even the stuff that's eventually going to be hidden. I find it helps a lot.

I'm giving up perspective altogether and drawing fairies and cute little fuzzy things.

Just kidding. I would kill myself. But I think I'm going to swear off perspective just like other people swear off guys. Only, like that, I doubt it will last because I'll get another "cool" idea that I can utterly ruin. Oh well. I make no sense. Screw everything. Laters.

tank is amazing, perspective is amazing like always but my fav bit of this iamge it eh scenary, the background. of all the things i love the burnt out car and the building damage, it all makes it look so real and that's what made this picture, not just it's sexy girl with gun and a huge cool looking tank ("so we don't have head lights, I didn't fit a toilet either you gona bitch at me about that?" "dude... now you said that i need to pee!" "and that's why they issue helmets!") The background takes it to a further high level, love it ^-^ defiantly a

Ahh, the captions are back I see
Yeah, the scenery was always going to be a major part of the drawing. The wall she's hiding behind had to be there. The rest, well, I wasn't really thinking about it, it just sort of happened. Stuff like the newspaper and the 44gallon drum. As such the background really took up a supreiseingly small amount of the total time spent on the piece. Go figure *shrugs*

No, it isn't. It originally started off being based on the late "T" series of tanks, but I gave up after awhile and it just became "a tank". Drawwing tanks is not really my forte. Plus I didn't have any references at school when I was blocking this out

So Nat's back at it again huh?...watch out, intruders...hmm...I liked a lot the composition of all the details you did here, I'm sure this girl would have made an awesome duo with Gordon Freeman, the main character of the PC game Half-life...there's about 4 parts of the game where he has to comfront a tank like that one, and only manages to dispose of it after throwing a couple of RPG at the cannon-tower or about 6 grenades underneath the chasis, hope they don't have IR sensors and poisonous gas.. so they don't see her coming!! but I'm sure she can take care of herself pretty well... ~ Awesome work ~ Juan Pablo
