Description
A new series of illustrated plates from a recently released book, "Cthulhu Wars" by Osprey Publishing. I worked on these a couple years back but because release of the book was severely delayed for some reason unknown to me I am only able to show post them up here now. Not a fan of Lovecraft's work but I honestly had a lot of fun working on these and learned some things about the Cthulhu Mythos. I hope you guys like them.Pawtuxet (April 13th 1771)
A group of patriots led by Cpt James Mathewson raid the farm owned by the necromancer Joseph Curwen.

If there was any real supernatural happening during that time period all humans would be dead, or so few that we would die off in 5 years. We are notΒ equippedΒ to handle ANYTHING of the supernatural or Fae in this time. But now in 2016 we might.

I'd think any group of armed people could potentially defeat a necromancer, even in this time period.

But I doubt it.Β This was still a time of the musket and the most poor medical treatment.Β A single bullet wound meant death.Β A necromancer would thrive in this time period.Β Quadruple more so during World War 1 what with the never ending corpses in the No Mans Land area & Spanish Flu.Β Plus anyone who had the magic needed to combat the forces of H.P. Lovecraft would be shunned and or murdered because of all the superstitious and backwards thinking people of the time.Β Even worse is the fact that during the Revolutionary War both sides of the conflict would hire such shady and evil people in order to get an edge on their opponent.Β In total this is NOT the ideal time for such things to happen.

A necromancer would only thrive as long as there isn't some military force or even a simple militia that was actively fighting him. He'd have to be *more* than just a necromancer if he really wanted to be unstoppable. Resurrecting the dead can only get you so far. Even a huge undead army is most certainly beatable, especially more so in later times such as WW1, when the average soldier could potentially kill five men before reloading, which would only take a few seconds, and when they also had machine guns and mechanized forces and planes. Zombies actually aren't that useful as soldiers.

I never really was a fan of the Cthulhu series but these Cthulhu Wars artwork is pretty cool. Keep up the great work
