Wow, is it normally curved, or did you distort the short? either way, I'm loving it.

this is incredible. did you see how the two column technique really gives a wonderful curve to the whole image? Superb detail and again wonderful editing.

if your subject is wider than your lens even with a small pan and you can not get further back to get more of the subject in then what you can do is split your field into two panned columns or rows. you need to take a few more extra shots either side of your expected cropped scene for better alignment in the panorama software though. Most pan software will allow you take "matrix" scenes and knit them either manually (time consuming) or will auto knit. Both Michael and I use PTGUI for knitting as it will process the HDR at the same time. Hope that helps.

It does! Very interesting... I'm using Autodesk Stitcher and I haven't seen that option (but I haven't looked for it either). This explains the really nice curves on both sides of this photograph! I tried something in that spirit with square faces in "The Dark Side" (And it could really have been three columns!) but never realized I could actually take inward curved "column" renders and knit them so nicely. Damn! So much to discover and learn still...

Thank you very much for taking time to answer and giving details. I'm definitely going to look into this! Do you know of softwares that allow a wide diversity of rendering shapes from a good 360° spherical panoramic shot? I'm browsing forums at the moment looking for that kind of thing...

2009 is going to be an interesting year I think!
