Chihiro was watching the clouds. Again.

She really needed to knock it off. It was such a bad habit to just stare out into space in the middle of class. Especially since she had only been at this new school for about 3 months and her grades were not looking so good.

A large white cloud drifted past. It was long and sort of squiggly shaped. It kind of reminded her of a snake, or a dragon… In fact, it kind of reminded her of Haku…

"Just go back the way you came, you'll be fine. But you have to promise not to look back. Not until you've passed through the tunnel."

"What about you? What will you do?"

"Don't worry, I'll go back and have a talk with Yubaba. I'll tell her I'm going to quit being her apprentice… I'm fine… I got my name back."

"Will we meet again sometime?"

"I'm sure we will."

"Promise?"

"Promise. Now go and don't look back."

Chihiro sighed. But she wanted to look back. If only for a second, she wanted to see him standing there, smiling at her – reunited with her parents. Was that so terrible? That she wanted to see his smile again? What would have happened if she had looked back?

If you had looked back… seeing your face once more… I'm not sure I could have let you go…

Chihiro blinked and looked around. Her classmates were still around her, sitting at the desks in their classroom. The teacher was still up at the front, droning on about some Math problem she had no idea how to do.

She sighed. No. Of course he wasn't here. She was just letting her imagination run away with her. It was just wishful thinking. Just wishing to hear his voice again. She turned her eyes back to the window beside her, and rested her chin on her hand, bored.

She wasn't sure how much time passed, or how many clouds she watched. It could have been an hour or only a minute, she didn't know. That kind of happened when you were spacing out. Time just floated away… like a cloud…

Eventually, though, she started to hear the world coming back to her. The door of her classroom opened, but she was much to relaxed to turn her head and see who it was, so she just listened.

A female voice – older, like a teacher or a teacher's aide – "Mr. Hokkaido? This is the new student transferring into your class…"

"Ah yes," Chihiro didn't have to turn her head to know this one. It was her boring teacher, Mr. Hokkaido, the one who had been droning on all class period. "Welcome," he greeted the new student.

Chihiro guessed from the murmurs around her class that the new kid was probably a good-looking boy, since most of the murmurs were from the excited, shallow girls. They were still in Elementary School, for Kami's sake! Why the heck were girls so interested in guys?

Then again… Chihiro herself had fallen in love with a river spirit… So maybe she wasn't one to judge them.

"Well why don't you introduce yourself to the class then?" Mr. Hakkaido suggested.

Chihiro finally allowed herself to glance over to the front of the class out of the corner of her eye. Yep. She was right. Good-looking boy. She turned her eyes back to the window.

Wait! What the hell- ?!

Chihiro dropped her hand on her desk and looked back to the front of the class. Her eyes widened, and her jaw dropped. She knew those sap green eyes. And that matching green pageboy-cut hair. Her mind was having a hard time believing that he could actually be standing right there – at the front of her class. And… wearing an Elementary School uniform?

"Certainly," he turned from the teacher and bowed slightly. "Hello," he greeted the class, straightening back up. His eyes directly narrowed in on Chihiro, way in the back of the class, and that smile she had so longed to see graced his lips, just for her.

"My name is Kohaku Nushi. But you're all welcome to call me 'Haku'," he introduced himself, "I look forward to being part of your class."

"Promise?"

"Promise…"
