So this is then kind of a lit pathway to salvation? Mind you, not for me, but for others maybe

Leaving that question aside, isn't it fascinating how good architecture is at suggesting it?

Sometimes it can be and the lighting. And I guess your photo was edited to enhance that effect as well, right?

I wouldn't disassociate architecture from lighting: the way I see it, good architecture plays with the lighting, includes the light in its structure.
God knows what was that photo enhanced for!

You are God (a god?)? eek! Because you should know what you edited (and at least for my own photos I have a complete history of my editing steps )

And indeed, lighting should be included in good architecture.

Oh, I do know what I edited, I'm just not sure what I edited it for
(I also keep a history of editing steps, although not complete.)
The thing with this post-process was that after converting to b&w I was surprised yet drawn to what came out and decided to enhance it rather than what I saw in the original image. I can't exactly tell what it was... it's more of an abstract, subconscious feel.

I think I understand. Sometimes when editing I already know what I want to emphasise, but oftentimes I just start fiddling around and notice something I wouldn't have thought of before and then work from that. I guess I rarely really think about what or why am I doing something. Except perhaps noise reduction; the why is fairly apparent there

Yes, that's how it works for me most of the time, too

Hmm, let me think, how much do I think when I do? I think I don't think that much either. I mostly trust intuition.
I do have very clear thoughts sometimes like "okay, so, I need to do this and this to achieve that" or thoughts which give the picture a meaning, or thoughts involved in the decisions concerning the making of the image. But most of them derive from intuition, too... - given how I understand intuition: as a whole, a resultant of the unconscious activity of the brain, including feelings, unconscious knowledge, memories, holistic grasp of things, unconscious perception of some details and so on and so forth.

Even when I do more conceptual work, I give it some thought, but I try to give my intuition some time to work on it as well; intuition or unconscious mind or whatever we call it makes me almost literally see the ideas - and, more importantly, gives me the desire to make them come true, which is something harder to achieve for a bare thought process.

In this case something was there that my intuition hinted towards, but in the end I think I lost it. Maybe I'll understand what it was someday... when all the thoughts that covered it will have been cleared from my mind.

Great contrast. Great use of shadows. So mysterious and dramatic!

Thank you! It's a wonderful little church, very minimalist - but still giving a powerful impression. It was quite a surprise though to find out, while editing the shot, how dramatic and mysterious it can be!
