Description (updated october 25th 2007, new cropping)

------ ------ ------ ------ ------

Image Description:
You are all free to to gather what meaning you like from it, as always. For me the meaning turns on the fact that this still pool is nearly invisible from the bridge, hidden by these black stones, and all most people who cross the bridge shall see is the violent turmoil of the river proper. So for me, it's about on the average person's unawareness of the reality of things and more specifically of special things that lay hidden.

Heavy edit and I willing threw out a good deal of data from the low end. I felt spareness and controlled contrast with only high peaks of saturation where the expedient means to focus on what I felt was important in the shot. A b&w version is here in my scrapbook. I lament the burned out highlight in the sky which made me crop it, because had it been in-range I could have used it to match the color of the pool.

Perfect composition here, but honestly: I think it's a bit too dark to be a coloured photo.

Nah far from perfect, I blew the sky out like a n00b and forgot to take a darker safely exposure so this composition is something of a cropped compromise to hide the sky.

As for the darkness partly it was an effort to depict the abyss or void standing between the bridge and the pool. Most people agree that the stones are too dark though. I think it works better in the b&w scrap version.

But can't you combine a version with dark background and stones exposed correct? That one would rock... or bw... haven't seen that one yet, but I'll take a look.

Water Pkg 2 [link] has an unedited and half-edited copy of this, maybe check that out and you'll see why I went with a darker center for the colors to play off of. Was not much of an exposure to start with [laughs]

So intriguing the way the movement contrasts with the quiet pool area and the shadows are so surreal with what appears to be a bright sky - overall just beautiful and thought provoking as you seem to be able to do with so many photos

Thanks for commenting man The idea with the dark rocks was to provide a dense shade from which the bright points of color could play, only moderately successful I agree. The idea was to emulate the many colors of crows black feathers. And yah seems you get the point, very much about the magical value of the pool
