Though there is one thing I've been wondering: I know Le Quinn has been systematically taking down these good witches, but......

.........I can't help but wonder if there's someone like Mombi who would see these Carnies as a threat to their evil plans for taking over OZ?

I mean, it would be pretty funny if Dorthy and that munchkin girl you made up were forced to work with someone like her just to have a chance against Le Quinn.

Well...I can only reveal a couple of things at this point.

1) You will DEFINITELY see Mombi join the narrative, but you'll need to wait an issue or two for her to show up.
2) Although Mombi once made a failed attempt to become the Wicked Witch of the North(she was thwarted by Locasta), Mombi was never really the Oz-domination type. Especially after her knowledge of magic was erased by the potion Glinda gave her at the end of Book 2.

Remember...we're going by Baum's books here, not the movies, and certainly not the film version of the character in "Return to Oz", who couldn't make up her mind whether she was Princess Langwidere or not. Β

(I should note, too, that I'm obviously among the few who HATED that movie...although I thought Fairuza Balk's version of Dorothy Gale was a much, MUCH better portrayal, believe it or not(and she was age-accurate, as well), compared to the damsel-in-distress performance MGM had arranged for Judy Garland.)

I still also have a hard time believing that Scraps is separate from Dorthy after that fan-fic of yours that I read a while ago.

Now that I think of it though,.........wasn't there some kind of creature who could burn and freeze when certain words are said?

"Ice to restrain. Fire to destrory"

Such a creature could prove a vaulable ally to Dorthy against these Carnevillains if it found it's way to her.

Ahhh, you're referring to my alternate version of the Woozy!

Yeah, I made a slightly different version of that character for the fanfiction series. The one you'll see in "Carnevillans" is going to be more like the book version.Β

But yes, the Woozy has indeed been scripted into a future issue.

I'm sure the wizard thought the animals were being beaten and coerced into giving false testimony. After all there's no way those poor abused creatures could be treated well; that would be contrary to his view of the situation.

WTalespinner In reply to Artificer-Urza [2018-01-05 03:00:10 +0000 UTC]

Something else to bear in mind is that animals are literally asked if they wish to join such a circus in the Oz scheme of things(since animals can speak as we do, after all!). They're not taken against their will by anyone and forced to train how to entertain crowds, nor are they treated badly. Most in and around Oz know this, which is why their forced banishment was a suspect act.

Think of what Dumbledore revealed about Lucius Malfoy's effort to have Albus removed as the Headmaster of Hogwarts at the end of "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets". Lucius threatened to curse the families of those who did not support Malfoy's desire to suspend the erudite Headmaster. The same basic principle...'help me or suffer', so to speak...applies to this wizard, and his ultimately successful effort to banish the Merrylanders.

But the circus animal participation issue in the Nonestic lands is absolutely contrary to what happens in the real world, which is something I always frown upon, and is one of the reasons I never go to circuses with animal acts.

I was making allusions to individuals who champion a cause simply because their sensibilities are offended and not because they've investigated the situation and seen how things actually are.

I should note here, as FYI(and no, it’s not a spoiler), that the wizard sharing the panel with King Pastoria is NOT the Wizard of Oz(as in Oscar Diggs)!

The events in the flashback occur quite a few years before Oscar’s balloon first lands in the fairyland.

You know, you'd think if the animals who WORK in the circus can give their own testimony that they are NOT being imprisoned or unjustly treated, it would shut these protesters up.
