Connections:
- Both are teenage tomboys who started out as regular humans before being thrust into a magical world, populated by creatures who are powered by human emotion who they fight on the regular (Witches and Youkai respectively).
- Both have similar personalities: being extremely outgoing, stubborn, prideful, fiery and impolite at times with them emotionally guarding themselves, while also downplaying their own talents and personalities (Kyoko makes herself look self-centered when deep down she does really care for people and Marisa making herself out to be untalented when she’s actually one of the hardest working person within Gensokyo),
- They still contrast with how they act to new people (Kyoko being extremely stand offish, with her almost killing Sayaka in their first duel to her own rage and Marisa making friends with both humans and non-humans alike with little difficulties (however she is still wary around Youkai)).
- Both love to battle, seeing it as a way to settle any argument which leads them to be very headstrong.
- They also have a great love for stories but contrasting with them mainly focusing on one of the two main story types each (Kyoko respecting Sayaka due to her loving fictional stories where love and courage prevail and Marisa having fascination with non-fiction books about magic, even writing her own: The Grimoire of Marisa).
- Both have a shattered and fractured Relationship with their familiee (mainly their fathers) due to their magical talents (Kyoko's father going crazy after he learnt that Kyoko was a Magical Girl, eventually leading to him murdering his whole family and then himself, leaving Kyoko as the sole survivor and Marisa not wanting to speak to her family, theorized in-verse to because her father, who runs the Krisame shop, to not handle things related to magic items).
- Both of their best friends is someone who while they do disagree on... a lot of things, still look out for each other and are some of the closest relationships in the series (Sakaya Miki and Reimu Hakurei).
- However, it wasn't always like this, with them being introduced to the series as Enemies, mainly due to another Villain telling them to fight the Heroes (Kyoko fighting Sakaya & Madoka due to Kyubrey telling Kyoko about Magical Girls being in her Territory/Marisa fighting Reimu because she was on her way to stop her Master)
- Both also have a friendship to a Time Manipulating Girl, who is usually seen as the Foil to them (Homura Akemi/Sakuya Iyazoi)
- They were also mentored by Two Girls who have pretty much the exact same fucking name (Mami Tomoe/Mima) who they eventually broke off from
- Both also have Vices that they Resort to (Food/Stealing)
- Both have the complete opposite relationship around Water (Kyoko can't Swim/Marisa's spiritual affinity being water)
- Both also have More Powerful alternate Dark Forms that appeared in Video Games (Ophelia/The Witch of Scarlet Dreams) that mainly came out due to Raw Emotion (Witches being formed when a Magical Girl falls into Despair/Marisa sacrificing her Own Name out of Fear of falling behind & losing Reimu)
