Description This is just the first preview version of a font I've been working on for a long time now, shown with an excerpt from my current NaNoWriMo novel. There are still a lot of glyphs I need to add, but I wanted to go ahead and put up what I have since I think it's still somewhat usable as it is, depending on your purpose. I'll update the deviation whenever I get around to this (which could be a while).

Lumaro is Esperanto and means "an array of lights" or "hiring sea" by some stretch. It's just a name I made up for no reason, but I thought it fit.

Come to think of it, the sea might make an awesome employer. I think I'd enjoy the job, anyway.

Feel free to use this font in deviations or whatever else, even commercially. Just please give me a link. Yes it says noncommercial, but that means the font itself. Don't sell it. I mean, it's not yours. But if you use it in something you create, that's a totally different thing. I'll probably write my own license soon.

But I made this before you joined dA. Sorry anyway.

Very good, very vintage. A labour of love perhaps???

Looks very nice! I like the quite oldstyle look with the narrow capitals. Do you intend to expand this font with more weights and italics?

At one point I meant to do a while lot with this font, but I wasn't able to work on it for a while, and I practically forgot about it. Maybe I'll do something eventually.

You know, last time I commented I focused on the design of the uppercase but the lowercase letters are also unique. The short top serifs, the long curve in 'f', the more calligraphic 's', the top-heavy 'a'... I think it all creates a very nice texture and I suspect this will work very well at small sizes. One thing though, and I actually can't decide whether I like it or not. The characters h/m/n/u are too wide compared to other characters. The negative space is bigger than in letters like 'b'. I kinda like this versatility in the typeface though so I'm not sure it's bad practice.

Hmm, you mean the lowercase , I assume? You might be right about that. How about the ?

I like the too. I decided to go with a similar design to my other font , where I'm told it didn't fit in as well, but I thought I could do it better here.

The R looks good, but I think the M would work better if its stems were less angled out. Also the O looks like it is sagging.

I suspect the n h and u look wide because the o and maybe also the e d and b are too narrow. The a seems about right.

The g looks like it is a small animal trying to hide.

Maybe a wider A would be better.

Just some things I would play with to see if they helped. You might prefer a more condensed appearance than I do.

Right on all counts, I think. I need to do a lot more work with it anyway, so I'll keep these things in mind and see what works.

Though, I kind of like my g. I guess it could be a little wider?

I usually tend to go too wide, so I approached this design with the intent to condense it a lot. It definitely helped, but I guess it's just not totally consistent.

Fuller and more sweeping in the lower story. Brioso has what I mean, without making the g very big: [link]

You would want something different, for Lumaro, which is more lapidary than calligraphic, but it's the idea.

The S seems kind of sagging, too. I think I need to learn a lot more about S, myself, it's hard for me to see the shape of an S.
