Description

My entry for the DA Contest Fall Horror Challenge 2021 –Your Worst Nightmare.

“My worst Nightmare comes from Halloween, when creepy pumpkins come back to life becoming into the Pumpkin Monster. I know it’s Crazy but Evil seeds make them grow from underneath the ground and they’re gonna take revenge to all the people out there who eat plants”

About the Artwork. Created with Zbrush 4R8 and rendered out with Keyshot 7 Pro. The time I spent working on the Project (3D Model) was around 40 hours and the final Render takes about 2 hours and a half to be cooked. The technique is Digital Sculpting  made with lots of details. The idea comes from the carved Pumpkins you see on Halloween, I wanted to do something creepy so in order to avoid hurting plants I decided to go digital and make the carvings (forms and scars) with my Wacom Tablet. The Story comes from reverse engineering “plants eating humans” similar to what I did on  The DA Biting Pear of Salamanca Project, but this time adapted to Halloween with a more complex idea.

In order to do the model from scratch I created separated pieces. First I studied the pumpkin plant and I made the model creating a simplified form (base mesh) in Autodesk Maya. Then I made  a human head. Then I figured out how to  mix all the parts, so I used different 3D Sculpting Tecnhiques such as deformers (twist), masks, cavity masks, IMM curves, Alpha masks, transpose master etc. The Project has 4 important parts as following, the Pumpink, the human head, the mask (the part that I spent most of the time working) and the details (plants) inspired by Canadian leafs.

The Final Image. To finish the Project I made a coherent 3D composition in 360°, and I selected 4 different luxury-metallic materials gold, two types of bronze one for the pumpkin one for the human form, and also rusted silver (the one that gives that Brown effect). The chosen color scheme is green to reflect nature and a gray background (to reflect darkness). So why metal? Metals come from underneath the earth (the mineral world) this type of energy feeds plants, so as I’ve been doing lots of metallic artworks and here you go.
