Crochet Grim Reaper. This cute little guy creates a sense of whimsy, though unfortunately he also carries a sense of ennui or sadness. His name is Hemah or "Hemi" for short.

He watches over domestic animals. As a Spectre of Death, he is only a psychopomp, serving to sever the last tie from the soul to the body and guide the deceased to the next world and having no control over the fact of their death

That most of the animals living in battery farms and feed lots have such awful lives is one cause of his sadness. They barely notice the transition, with no "hello", "thank you", "baa" or "moo". The other is humans putting absurd clothes on their pets. The memory of that poor Chihuahua in a pink faux fur coat still sends shudders up Hemi's spine. And people think he is the scary one??

Though it is best if you don't mention that his eyes are uneven. Still a touchy subject.

He is 5 1/2 inches/14cm tall. So far the tallest reaper I have made so far. He stands up on his own as there are dried split peas in the base. The blade on his scythe is an impressive 2.5", almost half his height.

In this life the only guarantees are death and taxes. If you follow the news, it seems that one can get away with dodging taxes but death is unavoidable so you might as well have a friend. We all know the tax man will not be your friend.
