Athena's parents, Hermes and Miriam!

The two had been together since youth, when Hermes stumbled injured and feverish into Aryn territory. Miriam, an apprentice Vicar at the time, saw to his wounds. Though nearly inseparable from then on, it took several seasons before the two decided to make their union official. It was not long after that that they bore their first litter. Hermes and Miriam both sat with the Rah'at by their seventh years and enjoyed places of well-earned privilege within Aryn Pack. For the most part their lives were simple and pleasant.

Athena and her siblings came as quite a surprise to aging couple. Hermes was a Master Ranger by that point, and one of the pack's most respected elders. Miriam had recently been appointed Grand Vicar. At the time of Athena's birth they had long since believed themselves too old to produce children. As such, the litter was seen as a blessing - a mark of the One's generosity and favour. The pups were treated more like grandchildren than direct offspring, a divergence Athena's older brother Hedge took personal offense to. Alpha by that time, Hedge resented the favour his parents doted upon his younger siblings, especially Athena. He never treated the pups like family, and often seemed to barely tolerate their presence.

When old age finally claimed Hermes, he was not on speaking terms with Hedge. Miriam continued attempts to broker peace between her children, though the effort proved futile. She lived to see Athena challenge her brother for leadership and emerge victorious. A season later Miriam joined her mate at the side of the Great Spirit. Even in their absence Athena strove to fulfill her parents' expectations, leading Aryn into a period of prosperity and growth that had not been known for nearly three generations.
