Suddenly, everything seemed to be happening at once. Cody let the makeshift pick drop from her fingers, to bounce with a sharp ping! which sounded positively thunderous to her fear-sharpened senses - and then that hand shot into the un-zippered backpack for something, even as she surged toward her feet. The clearly-surprised, and very unhappy thug strode forward, continuing to raise his pistol, as he scowled down at the two catfolk youths with fury blazing from his stocking-shrouded eyes. Bryn let out an anxious, enraged growl and tensed against his bonds, instinctively lurching forward to the defense of his sister and himself...only to be jerked to a clinking, jarring halt by the cuffs and chains still tethering him to the sturdy piping at his back. He resisted the impulse to urge Cody to run, knowing that she wouldn't - and that it was an impossibility in any case, with the gun-toting goon blocking the only way out of the small chamber.

But while the feisty young catgirl would not run, she apparently could fight, and had planned ahead for such a possibility. Her hand re-emerged from the backpack with a stun-gun gripped firmly in it, a weapon which she brought to bear as she sprang to her feet and lunged toward the towering thug. "Leave us alone!" she cried angrily, thrusting the reassuringly-weighty device toward the vile man who had so brutally invaded she and her brother's life. Her other hand shot out for the wrist of his gun-hand, trying to shove the weapon down, aside...anywhere other than where he was trying to point it at that moment.

Cody's bold rush was turned into a scuffling struggle, however, as the swift thug snatched her wrist in a grip like a vise and twisted the oncoming weapon away in a much-more-effective imitation of Cody's own efforts to disarm him. He sneered down derisively, and rasped, "So, the little girl-kitty's got claws too, huh?" He forced Cody backward with a vicious shove, the petite catgirl struggling back against him with all her might, and giving him a surprisingly hard time as they thrust and strove against one another, each trying to gain the upper hand in the seemingly one-sided fight.

While, all-but-forgotten in the fury of the moment, Bryn stretched hopefully for the fallen lock-pick, determined to get it and continue his own escape so he could help his sister in battling the menacing miscreant. He shoved such concerns as how long it would take him to get unchained - if he could do so at all, lacking even his sister's rudimentary talents at lock-picking - to the back of his mind as his fingers reached and strained for the slender bit of metal which lay just beyond their reach. Gritting his teeth, the determined catboy leaned and kicked himself a little farther forward, trying to make his body bend farther than it was meant to go, to close the gap and reach the pin...

Even as the big man rammed his sister another hard-fought step backward in their lurching, tussling battle...
