Description
I've never seen such an amazing Rainbow before, the main bow was reverberating! What on Earth could cause that to happen, it didn't last for long and soon became a crisp single arc...

Scotland Cottage, near Grantown-On-Spey, Cairngorms. Summer '07

**Edit**

I've found out what the rainbow is called, and it's a Supernumerary rainbow, where there are lots of reflections within the main arc, look to inside of the bright arc and you'll see what I mean!

Just amazing what mother nature can do with simply sunshine and rain. I love the way it's dark on one side and light on the other. Well captured!

If you look closely you'll see that the main bow has around 3more faint bows all close together, I've never seen that before. I've seen 2 arcs yes, I've even seen three but never an arc like this one.

Ah ha, I've found it! It's called a Supernumerary rainbow [link]

I could almost see the full rainbow arc, only the woods on the left were blocking some of it, ah well. I thought it was cool how it was moving, when I first went out the rainbow was close to us in the field, but by the time I'd finishing taking a million photos it had obviously moved back.

Now I just want to capture some northern lights! I can remember when we were younger seeing them up in Scotland, I thought it was some sort of fireworks or coloured bombs - We used to go up in September or March, so by then the weather was much more cold, I'm sure we were on a pier or something, I don't know why we were there at night though!

Not fair you keep getting all the rainbows. The only ones I've seen lately appear when I get the garden hose out

Wysseri In reply to SherylLaBouchardiere [2007-08-21 14:45:08 +0000 UTC]

I've not seen a Rainbow here recently, before I went away it hadn't rained here for over two weeks, then when I was in Scotland and actually got some Sun, it rained down here most of the time.

It rained on Sat, and perhaps Sunday and no breaks in clouds for rainbows to appear. But at the moment it's just grey with the very rare break of blue sky.

The rainbow in Scotland was quite lucky, I just happened to notice a rather angry, yet golden sky and checked out back and was met with this beauty. I ran out with a rucksack over my head because it was still drizzling to get some photos - oh the things we do for art!
