Description Wow, I have been sooooo inactive lately! I have a buildup of several things I still need to upload. Well, you know how it is, the usual excuses, trying to get school over with for the summer, yadda-yadda....

Anyway, this was a piece I actually drew for my Easter cards waaaaaay back. Yes, I stupidly took on a huge project so soon after [link] just because I never learn. Though to be fair, though I underestimated the TIME involved in this piece, there wasn't as much effort involved, so it balanced out.

Moving right along, this piece is sort of threefold: first of all, Easter, the Resurrection, all that good stuff.

Secondly...the Footprints poem. Surely you all know it, but in case you live in a cave and don't, you can read it here: [link]

And thirdly....I don't know if anyone will realize, but that's actually supposed to be Aslan. This was heavily inspired by my favourite scene in the movie, when Lucy is looking out towards the beach and Mr. Tumnus tells her, "He's not a tame lion", and then they look back and all that's left are footprints. In fact, I was going to write Mr. Tumnus' quote, but I thought this one was more fitting for Easter, and still suit the scene well. I do hope it's recognized for the wonderful Disney magic it is though!

Alrighty, now to get caught up with all my messages and other uploads...

Aslan (c) Disney or C. S. Lewis?

I second ~skittlcloud . I hope Disney didn't take the copyright from Lewis' estate...

As I replied, I'm not entirely sure you can make a movie with a character if you do not hold the copyright to that character. But I really don't know anything about it. Wouldn't the copyright be running out soon anyway? Would someone have renewed it? I don't know.

FireFiriel In reply to x-Silverwing-x [2010-02-24 05:15:50 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah, you can get the movie rights without having the copyright. Tolkien's estate still holds the copyright to everything Lord of the Rings. I don't know either... I just wouldn't want people thinking Disney made Aslan up. Anyway it's a very nice picture.

x-Silverwing-x In reply to FireFiriel [2010-02-26 06:12:10 +0000 UTC]

Well, there you go, just goes to show how much I know. xPP I always assumed that was the reason JK Rowling sold the rights to Harry Potter...I always thought, why else would one do sucha silly thing?

Thank you!

skittlcloud [2010-02-24 00:36:18 +0000 UTC]

Totally beautiful.

One question. Did Disney actually copyright Aslan? Because of course, the character was created by C.S. Lewis.

x-Silverwing-x In reply to skittlcloud [2010-02-24 01:37:07 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!!

Well, now that you mention it, I'm not entirely sure. I don't think you can make a movie with a character if you do not hold the copyright to that character (ie. Harry Potter). But then, I have really no knowledge on the subject....

skittlcloud In reply to x-Silverwing-x [2010-02-24 04:30:15 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. Okay. Maybe I just get touchy because I'm a writer myself. My first thought is, "What?! That isn't Disney's property! They didn't write the book!"
I was quite impressed by the movie, though. Have you read anything else by C.S. Lewis? ^^

x-Silverwing-x In reply to skittlcloud [2010-02-26 06:11:15 +0000 UTC]

Haha, no worries.

There, I changed it. ^^

Yes, I have. I've read the Space Trilogy, which I didn't enjoy, and the Screwtape Letters, which I did, as well as small bits of Mere Christianity and the Four Loves.

But I prefer his contemporary, GK Chesterton. =3

skittlcloud In reply to x-Silverwing-x [2010-02-26 08:02:43 +0000 UTC]

Screwtape Letters is great. Mere Christianity actually explains a lot of Catholic ideas, such as the "begotten not made" part of the Creed.

I've never read GK Chesterton. I should work on that.

x-Silverwing-x In reply to skittlcloud [2010-02-26 17:52:42 +0000 UTC]

Right. Ironic that he himself never officially converted to Catholicism (pity, that)...but he was so influenced by his friends Tolkien and Chesterton.

Oh, he's absolutely hilarious. You can find his essays at chesterton.org, they're so funny. Oh, and one of my favourite books is his "The Innocence of Father Brown"....book of short stories about a detective priest. xDD It's amazing.

Hey! I just read your comment on another piece at #DAcatholics ...you're in RCIA? No way! That's so awesome. If I knew where you lived, I'd fly out to see you confirmed. ^^ Are you getting baptized too then? My boyfriends becoming Catholic, but our priest let him bypass RCIA because he already seemed to know everthing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

skittlcloud In reply to x-Silverwing-x [2010-02-26 18:07:05 +0000 UTC]

I'll definitely try and check that out. ^^

Yup, I'm being baptized and confirmed this Easter Vigil. And actually, my boyfriend already is Catholic, so our situations are kind of flip-flopped. ^^ He's the one who brought me to the Church for the first time a little over two years ago.
He already knew everything! Yeesh! I've learned so much in my RCIA class, and I've also really enjoyed having such a community to rely on. Even though I'm by far the youngest-- I barely make the cut at 18--I wanted to do this on my own, as most of my family has stayed away from religion, and if I did RCIC, I would need their permission. Even though they would've given it, as they're supporting me the best they can, I wanted them to know that I'm doing this for me, and no one else. (In fact, my boyfriend didn't know I'd signed up until the night before the first class.)

I'm actually getting a little nervous, because last night was our last instructional class--now we have the Scrutinies and our Lenten retreat, but still--I'm worried about who I'll have to spend time with and talk about my religion to the degree I do in my RCIA class. Need to see how old you can be in the youth group at my church, as my current (community) college has no catholic club. I'm heavily considering transferring to a Catholic collee, though...
Woo. That was a lot. I'm sorry. >_<
