Why do you sometimes start a pic with greyscale shading and then go to colour them and sometimes directly with colours? I don't quite get the advantage of starting with this greyscale process (not that I don't think there is none, I just can't see it)

It just depends how you want to work, either way is good. I mostly like to start in greyscale since I find it easier to be able to just focus on the forms and value without having to worry about colour as well.

Just as a light source. I flip the image a lot so it handy to have while I'm laying in the lights and shadows.
