A breeze swept by, making the lush grass sway like waves on the ocean. The sun’s rays came out from between the trees, dancing around like diamonds on the ground. Birds flew from branch to branch, filling the air with beautiful song.

A dragonfly was quietly buzzing around, before deciding to make rest on a big round leaf. Hekan, a small white and umber wyvern, had seen the insect land and leaped over to study it. Her eyes, green like the forest clearing, studied the winged insect with great interest and amazement.

Behind her the grass started moving, and a hazel fur could be seen poking through. Sneaking closer with each passing second.

The dragonfly spread its shiny wings and took flight. Hekan enthusiastically followed the fly, playfully trying to snap out after it.

But all of a sudden, the birds chirping was replaced by the violent flaps of wings, and left the air seemingly still standing. Soon Hekan found herself frozen on the spot, letting the dragonfly fly on without her.

The eyeless creature towering over her let out a deep snarl, sending cold shivers down her back.

The creature flashed its black underbelly as it clawed out with its four paws, only missing Hekan’s head with a few inches. Hekan basked her wings erraticly, but the fear-stricken dragon didn’t yet have the strength to fly, and instead fell on her back. In a last effort she raised her wing to shield the attack the kukuri was about to launch. She squished her eyes shut, knowing that this was it.

A fierce crack could be heard.

Hekan, who was surrounded by a fading glowing field, opened her eyes just in time to watch the eyeless creature fly back with a hiss. With great struggle it got back up on its legs, and ran away, sparring the young dragons life.

Hekan didn’t dare move until long after the black tipped tail had left sight.
